SciFi and Fantasy Art: Messenger of Avata

One of the creatures wich appears in the Pandora novels (The Jesus Incident, The Lazarus Effect and The Ascention Factor) by Frank Herbert and Bill Ransom. This is the spore form of the Algae (not sure if they were called like this in english, because i've only read the romanian versions of the books). The Algae were a massive single conciousness, called Avata, wich inhabited an entire planet (Pandora).

The spores were hydrogen-filled bubbles wich drifted on the atmospheric currents. Some of their tentacles were wrapped around a rock as balance (didn't draw this here, but i will upload another pic soon). They could navigate in the Pandoran atmosphere using their back finns as a boat uses its rudder for steering.

The first contact between Humanity and Avata was realised through these spores.

Done in pencil.
