SciFi and Fantasy Art: Kyûbi kitsuneIn japanese folklore, the fox is a mythical creature. As it grows, it's tail splits from the top, giving the fox up to nine separate tails. A ninetailed fox, or 'kyûbi', is a slightly wicked, and highly vengeful being. Not someone you want to get on the wrong side with. | |

| 19 Aug 2005 | Anonymous | i just stumbled on this site and i was looking through the galleries (at random!) and i found this.....ITS BEAUTIFUL!!!! i can definitely see his lil trickster smile.....i think i'll go away before he pulls a prank on me Emma JC Nilsson replies: "Wow, found at random! *impressed* Sure he is a trickster, but vixens are known to be even more so than the males, so this one might be fooled by a lovely she-fox if he isn't on his guard. =)" | |
| 20 Aug 2005 | Night Elf Samurai | Dude ur awesome at drawing animals! I love kitsune! I dunno if u'd consider them animals or not but i love 'em!!!! Emma JC Nilsson replies: "Thanks. =) Well, the kitsune (fox) sure is an animal, but in japanese folklore, they are also spiritual beings, almost like ghosts. So I guess they are on the borderline between animals and spirits." | |
| 21 Aug 2005 | Meg L. Getrum | Cool! I love the head, it's so realistic, and I like the way the rest of the body isn't. The tails need a little work, and I think the quality would be improved a little if you found away around that dark outline on the body and tails, it sort of clashes with the lack of inner detail (which I like) Emma JC Nilsson replies: "You're right about the tails, they didn't turn out as good as the rest of the body. You have an interesting point, I didn't think of that. I guess I'm too used to drawing manga and make clear outer lines. Thanks." | |
| 28 Aug 2005 | Rickard KJ Fornstedt | 'Kyûkon kitsune', what does that mean? I hope it's not japanese for the Swedish word 'niosvansad skabbräv'.(intern joke sorry...) It's very cute. I really like the way you've made the face. It looks so curious. Well done! Emma JC Nilsson replies: "Close enough, Rick. =) Anyway, it's actually not supposed to be "kyûkon" but "kyûbi". Realized it too late, I'm changing it with the next ticket." | |
Emma JC Nilsson replies: "*pokes Fläder-korv* English, my friend, english. You for one should know. What are you doing home, btw? I thought you had a "tenta" today? -_-" | |
| 25 Feb 2006 | Ashiru Avadra | I love the expression, but I think its paws are just slightly awkward. And its rump looks a wee bit too small. Emma JC Nilsson replies: "Never was good with paws/feet/hands... Though, personally, I'm satesfied with them, except the right front-paw. Could have put down more work on them, I admit. Thanks for commenting!" | |
| 7 Dec 2006 | Kayler | 0_0 it was so cute i had to have it!! (but practis on the feet). Emma JC Nilsson replies: "Feet/paws are hard... I've always had trouble with them. I'll practice more!" | |
| 26 Jan 2007 | Vexin2 | woah, major split-ends! Like the idea, not too familiar with non-American folk-lore. (we don't seem to have too much to offer) Emma JC Nilsson replies: "I'm not american, so I wouldn't know... ^^," | |
| 9 Apr 2007 | Reannewolf | He looks cute....too cute! he's probably plotting our downfall! ^^ hehe. its a cool pic and the fox is really good! Emma JC Nilsson replies: "Thanks! You're probably right... I don't trust him either." | |
