SciFi and Fantasy Art: AndriaThis is the map over my invented world, Andria. I made it many, many years ago, but it still works. Andria is the place where my imaginary creatures and characters have resided since I was just a kid. =)

I love how you added the little ship and animals in the water it makes it seem like a really map, but you know what you could add to make it seem like a really real map , those little water lines, I never really found out what their really for... but hey, lots of people use them, so they must be important. :~D Emma JC Nilsson replies: "*lol* You might be right. I was thinking about coloring the ocean blue, but I didn't, obviously... I did this quite a while back so now I can't even remember why I chose not to... maybe I was just lazy. ^_^ Perhaps I should add a couple of waves..."
| 11 Dec 2005 | The Queen of Bandits | Nice map. I've been trying to get a map made up about the story I'm righting but i keep changing my mind and coming up with new countries and getting rid of old ones. Well, I fugure something out eventualy. Cool Map! Emma JC Nilsson replies: "I've also changed borders and countries quite a bit since I first created Andria. A tip is to first make a basic map without borders so you can change it freely along with your new ideas. Thank you for commenting!" | |
| 25 Feb 2006 | Shelz Keast | Cool, someone else who like to draw maps. Some of my friends had the smart idea of creating a cmputor game (never came through)and I was the one asked to do the concept sketches. I made about 4 versions of the same map. Do you make multiple versions of maps? (i.e topographical, political, climatic) Emma JC Nilsson replies: "Multiple versions of maps..? You bet! =^_^= I have topographical, climatic, maps over winds, currents, animal life, etc etc... My latest project is to make this map as a real 3D globe..." | |
| 29 Jun 2006 | Polenth Blake | I like the textures used on the different vegetation areas. It's also nifty how the dolphin in the middle seems to be jumping over the equator. Emma JC Nilsson replies: "Oh, you noticed about the textures! =^_^= You can't see it very well on the scanned version, but it is intentional, like the grass is drawn with vertical lines and so on. Thanks!" | |
| 16 May 2007 | Nora ´Noder´ Macsuga | It just can be me again, but this map is like America. There's a Canada-like area in the top, a Carribean-sea-like area in between the two big islands, and a Mexico-like area. Anyway, I like... no I love the whole pic, especially the creature on the top. And really... this is original, so congrats, great work Emma JC Nilsson replies: "I shamelessly admit that I studied maps when drawing Andria, though I thought that the only obvious theft was the island of Lori which is actually Madagaskar... =) But the Mexico-looking thing I put there for a very selfish reason: I wanted a narrow passage for the migrating birds. ^^, I'm such a nerd..." | |
| 24 Jul 2007 | Joe | hi...i find that the best way to make world maps is if u take a blank picture of the real world map put it into a program on ur comp i.e paint and stretch, rotate and move the continents around maybe joining them onto others or splitting them apart, this method leaves you with continents and the little islands that are annoying to draw. hope it helps, id show u some but i cant put my pictures on here jsut yet xD lol Emma JC Nilsson replies: "Thanks for the tip! That was basically what I did, except I didn't use a computer, but my brain. =) I never do computer art, I'm too bad at it. Besides, I didn't want a random world - I had a very clear idea of what I wanted in terms of paths for migrating birds, sail routes, metrological conditions..." | |
