SciFi and Fantasy Art: Dragon Letters B

This is one of the letters of my Dragon Alphabet. Since its intended for a coloring book, its black and white. Pen & Ink (altered a bit in photo shop).

His anatomy is a bit distorted (as are all my Letter Dragons), but its necessary in order to make him look like the right letter.

Gave him a bit of color..."B" is for "Blue".

Fabulous! I love it and I would definitely buy a color book like this for my kids...again I really like the pose it's totally understandable that you would have to distort the design a bit to create the letter B.

It's wonderful how you managed to use up all the positive space needed to make the design of the letter, while not taking too much of the negative space around the letter and inside the bowls of the B. Great!

:-) Brian L. Husted replies: "One of the things I wanted to do when I made this series was to follow the outline of the letters as closely as I could while not intruding on the negative spaces anymore than I had to. It made it really tough on some of them, especially O and Q (which you'll see eventually)"

Actually, I think his body fits rather naturally into a B. I imagine it's hard to get some of the letters to look natural, but the curves on this one are great!

:-) Brian L. Husted replies: "The most awkward ones to do were X, K, M, N, W, and H, but you'll see those when I have them all up. Its tricky getting them into the right shape while still keeping with my same design format."

I'm more amazed by the imaginative poses you've placed these dragons in. Great expressions!

:-) Brian L. Husted replies: "B wasn't too hard to come up with, but there are some letters I really had to get creative to fit them into the shapes I needed."

All your letter dragons are just so cute in their cartoony colouring-book style. Wonderful concept too. A few of them struck me in particular though. I love the curves in the wings and tail of this one to form the letter, its not a shape I would've been able to come up with at all! The long face with his slightly confused expression is priceless too!

:-) Brian L. Husted replies: "Of all the letters I think I did the most sketches of B before I settled on a final design to use. Not because it was harder than the rest, but because it is the first letter of my name I wanted him to look just right. My favorite things about him are the curves of his tail and wings and how they flow around to create the outline of the letter. I’m glad you noticed that. Thanks for the comments."

:-) Brian L. Husted replies: "New ones are on the way!"

I think this may just be my new favourite letter, the wings sweeping back like that look like water.

I have to say that this one is my favorite right now. Not only does he stand for the first letter of my name, but that expression on his face if just priceless! *lol* Huh? *lol*
