| 2 Apr 2004 | Alex Hakobian AKA Avaz | The parts of the ship mast sticking out of the water and the rows of stumps definitely give the feeling of a story underneath. Brian L. Husted replies: "The water looked too plain without something in it. It's hard to see in this scan, but the little bird sitting on the peir is a strange cross between a vulture and a flamingo.
One of these days I should do a real painting of just him, what would that be called a "Flaulture" or a "Vulmingo"? Hmmm...."
| 30 May 2004 | Matt Lucas | Hi Brian... That's what my keep is missing... a dragon! Maybe on the next one. Brian L. Husted replies: "That would be nice to see. Your keeps look like the perfect perch for a big 'ol dragon." | |
| 2 Jun 2004 | Audrey S. Totire | This is beautiful. It's like the last one and I am surprised you didn't get mod's choice on this one! Brian L. Husted replies: "I'm not going to complain, I'm just happy that I've gotten one mod's choice. Hopefully I'll pick up another one sometime. Your own work is great, I can see why you have so many." | |
| 19 Jun 2004 | Wendy Bittnerová | I like the new scan on this one! The colors are much more vibrant...*smiles* Brian L. Husted replies: "I’m glad I replaced the old scan. It also had a weird texture thing going on that I didn’t like. This looks much more like the original painting." | |
| 20 Jun 2004 | Elizabeth F Keimach | What a lot of work involved in this one Brian. I find the combination of watercolour and ink really works. Good one! Brian L. Husted replies: "I’ve been using technical pens for my ink work lately, but I think I’m going to start trying to use my fine point crow quill dip pen again like I did with this one. It gives a much finer line and you can vary the thickness." | |
| 29 Jun 2004 | Marietta Buck | Wow! The colors and control of medium. **jealous** I love the twisting feel that I see, from the curve of the land and the tilt of the castle. It pulls the eye into the piece. And the background gives depth with an amazingly minimal amount of detail. But my favorite part, due to my red bias, would have to be the dragon. Brian L. Husted replies: "I’m kind of hooked on the color blue, so I’m really happy with the way the water turned out. I’m glad you like the painting, it was fun to do." | |
| 17 Aug 2004 | Renee M. Landkamer | Lovely. Brilliant color and value contrasts. Nice design. Like the twist of the island. Brian L. Husted replies: "He he, that's just me, I've gotta have everything twisted! Thanks for the comment" | |
| 11 Oct 2004 | Milla Lindqvist | Like everyone else, I like the bright colors...they give a sort of glow-in-the-dark feel to the picture :b And not just the brightness but the unusual colors..since when is the moon, or a castle roof, pink? :b It's like a psychadelic dream. Awesome. Brian L. Husted replies: "What can I say, I just like psychedelic colors sometimes. Perhaps the people who built the castles just had a preference for the color pink, as far a the moon, well...maybe its made out of some sort of pink material like, um...cotton candy? A giant wad of bubble gum?" | |
| 7 Feb 2008 | Barbara J. Wickham | This has such an illustrative quality to it that I feel like I can turn the page and find out what happens next.
I love the rich colors, especially against the large area of black sky. I also really like the distorted angles on the castle.
