SciFi and Fantasy Art: Devious smile

You better watch out when they look like that...

I like how this picture came out, though it was made without any further sketching or planning. Outlines are drawn with ink and the rest is coloured with black and brown watercolour.

Great details and expression. I love the relief done by the brown watercolour on the scales. Beautiful work.

Yay!!!!! *first comment dance!* I like this! As with all your other dragons, this is fantastic! I love the shadows and detail. I wish I had a talent like yours when it comes to dragons. They are very hard for me to draw. Your gallery is amazing! Thank you for sharing!

:-) Elina Vähä-Mäkilä replies: "I think dragons are hard to draw in general...but I like the challenge they offer. Thanks for commenting!"

I like it a lot. The anatomy of the head is very very good 1

I think he’d do well with a cigar or something similar.
Very nice work!

:-) Elina Vähä-Mäkilä replies: "Haha...yes, I think he would look like a real baddie with cigar. "

oh yea! Im not posting a comment like, 5 years after the pic is posted. I may only be 12, but people say im good at drawing. Really good. But looking at this, i look like crap.

:-) Elina Vähä-Mäkilä replies: "When I was 12 people said I’m good at drawing...but to be honest those images I did back then make me laugh nowadays. They’re all so...hopeless. It’s still good that I started drawing at that age. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to do even this now. "

i agree. he looks like he should hav a cigar....

:-) Elina Vähä-Mäkilä replies: "Yep, and because he is dragon he wouldn’t need a lighter! (blah, bad joke 10 )"

You are really good at giving your artwork characters emotion!! I like this one a lot, I really like all of those scales on his head and neck, they make him seem real. I also really like his eye and little smile. 1

:-) Elina Vähä-Mäkilä replies: "Well, there’s not much happening in this image so I hade to make it interesting by concentrating on details and expression."

Hmmm, you have propably heard this before but your talent to draw dragons is very striking. You have couple of fine specimens of dragon kin in your gallery but this is the one I like best. Mostly because you have managed to give him a lot of character with the expression. That smirk can only mean something bad. Not that the other details aren’t good. Scales, horns, bone spikes and all the anatomy is well balanced and form a great beast which matches my images how the dragons should look. Good work.

:-) Elina Vähä-Mäkilä replies: "Thank you very much! I love designing dragons since I’ve always been into big reptiles (as a kid I loved dinosaurs). Interesting and balanced looking anatomy is my goal, and, although I’m not entirely happy with my work yet, practicing is slowly starting to pay off. I also try to give my dragons expressions, since when the dragon is the main content of the picture, it should appear interesting somehow. Just sitting there and being dragon is not necessarily enough. "
