| 9 Sep 2008 | John R Farley Jr | I’m thinking the light is caused by the asteroid going through the atmosphere at 17 miles per second. Now is this a "city buster, Continent buster, or species buster? A city buster is about a kilometer wide or larger. Continent busters are several time larger still, and a species buster is large enough to destroy all life on Earth and kill anything immediately within 150 kilometers of impact. Cool picture. When I went out to photograph the landscape and the "comet", I think I had a very large one in my mind, but I was unable to find the distant horizon I wanted in my neighbourhood, so I had to settle for this background. I’ll have to leave the size of the comet to the beholder..." | |
