SciFi and Fantasy Art: By the Blood

The idea for this picture floated around in my head for about half a year before I put it on paper. I wanted to do a red-haired vampyre for something a little different, but the image I had in my head didn't make much technical sense, and it wasn't exactly what I wanted. Finally, some time in late August or early September, I found a lipstick ad on the back of one of my Mom's fitness magazines and decided it would make the perfect basis for my vampyre picture. The title is a reference to Bram Stoker's Dracula. Prismacolor coloured pencils on 8.5x11 academie brand sketch paper.

The blood is very, very striking, and I love the attention you gave to her jewelery. The most striking part, though, is her eyes. They glow, which is really, really hard to look away from. Great work!

:-) Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "Thanks, I was going for the whole underworld effect... I love vampyres with glowing eyes, lol."

This one's really good. The pencilwork is extraordinary. Also an interesting angle for a facial portrait.

:-) Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "Actually I'm rather depressed by this picture now, I found an Atreyu album cover that looks almost exactly like it *sigh* Anyway thanks, it helps to get rid of some of the sting, lol."
10 May 2006:-) Kristin A. Erickson
I love how the blood is running down her neck and over the exquisite necklace.

:-) Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "well, somebody better catch it then..."

Nice creepy expression on her face, kinda makes me shiver a bit inside, then I remember Im evil though and it goes away *grins* Nice picture, I love how you did her lips and her hair, as well as the expression of her face.

:-) Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "Thank you Thank you Thank you. She looks quite gorged to me. maybe some kind of vampiric feeding ecstasy, lol."

Lovely colours on this one. I really like the way you've drawn the moonlight on her hair.

:-) Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "That was actually an accident, but I'm glad you like it, lol"
