SciFi and Fantasy Art: Marilith (Illustrative depiction)
I'm posting this in addition to the full backgrounded version, as I am quite proud of the colouring I did here, which is somewhat muted in the other version, as a necessitated by the urge to create believability in a full picture. Think of this as a purely illustrative version. (as one might find in a monster compendium, that in itself being a fitting classification, as my original motivation came from how unhappy I was with almost every Marilith drawn since the early nineties.) This was done on 14"x17" vellum bristol board in coloured pencil, and coloured in photoshop.
Marilith are a race of Tan'ari demons from Dungeons and Dragons. They appear from the waist down as a large venomous snake, and from the waist up as a comely humanoid female with six arms, each holding a different weapon.
They rank second only to the Balor in terms of sheer might, and serve as the tacticians and generals of the abyssal hordes, in as much a sense as there can be any such role amongst creatures borne of chaos, and very well in their own right.
