SciFi and Fantasy Art: Womanhood

Another picture of the druidess Teleya, this time to celebrate my fiance`e's eighteenth birthday (which actually occured quite a while before I was even able to start on this, lol) The moon represents her femeninty, the oaks represent wisdom, the raven is her Zodiac sign, and there are various other symbols in the image. The focus isn't as great as it could be, but it was the best we could do with my teacher's camera. Done in watercolours with prismacolor outlines. The knots on the border are spraypainted with a stencil I made, and the golden rectangle was added in photoshop. (and yes, the moon was a pain in the butt, lol) The letters at the bottom right hand corner are Ogham and spell out the word "she"

Oooohhh, knotworks! And pretty good ones, at that. The border adds definitely something to this picture, making it stand out beautifully. The girl has a very serene feel about her. The only thing that bothers me a little is that oak branch, maybe too lonely, I don't really know. With a bit of trunk, or more leaves... I also have trouble with trees, so I can't really help, sorry! Great piece anyway!

:-) Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "eh, I didn't want it to subtract too much from the rest of the image. Thank you for the comment though. (those knots were a pain in the butt, it's really nice for someone to notice them, lol."

Love the central figure, and all the symbols you managed to weave into it.

1 Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "I wanted to add even more than that, believe it or not, lol"

Gorgeous piece. I love the detail you've put into it as well as the celtic designs(is a huge fan). I'd love to see you do more like this.

:-) Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "hehe, well, you see this took me a good while... nearly drove me insane too... I had to carve my own stencils to spraypaint that border, and it took me forever to come up with a celtic knot moon that didn't look Completely stupid, lol. Eh, I'll probably do a few more in future, but it will be a while. I'm glad you liked it!"

Very nice ^_^. I admire all the little details, and especially like the celtic-knot moon. I'm sure your fiancee loved it!

:-) Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "She does... I think..."

Oh my Gods, the knots! I have tried so many times to draw them and I ALWAYS kill them. This is so stunning I am in awe. *stares*

:-) Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "Eh, I killed this one a few times. You just have to work through it, lol"

Well Matthew, if Teleya likes the oak tree than there is nothing wrong with it. 1 I think this is my favorite of the Gallery. I do however, agree with Yasmine. The branches are a composition issue and do clutter the image located where they are. A better location (only in me opinion and nothing you can do about it now) would be to turn the knots at the lower tip of the moon into a knot of oak branches just like the moon is now. Just a couple of branches with a few leaves. It would make a nice perch for the raven too. The Celtic knot moon is a wonderful element and well worth a little butt pain. What do you think about the metamorphosing of silver moon knot into oak knot? (from an 'if you could do it different' stand point 1 All and all, nicely done!

:-) Matthew W. Gonzales replies: "Well, I'm looking at the picture right now, and to tell the truth I think I may be too used to it looking like that to have an unbiased opinion on it... I like them where they are, though I do see where they could be an issue... I'm not sure about your idea.. It could work, but I think it might leave that space up there a little empty... If I could do it over again, what I would do, is probably make the Ogham letters a little larger to help balance those branches a bit more. But thank you for your opinion 2"
