SciFi and Fantasy Art: Horontus the Faery Dragon

Horontus was my second needle-felted piece as he was also made from Romney and Merino. I love how his eyes came out, it was difficult to work out how best to do them!

awwww!!!! I want one! You should make diplicate and make hundreds selling em. xD I love it! It's the first art here I felt I truly could grab through the screan and snuggle it's stuffing out, lol. Great job!

:-) Stephanie 'Illontai' Schauer replies: "I know, I know! As soon as I finish school (4 weeks not counting the hols and exams) I'm going to start making a whole lot of critters and patterns. I'm glad you find him so snuggly!"

:-) Stephanie 'Illontai' Schauer replies: "Glad you like him too. Actually, as well as my art homework, I'm making a buddy for him called Sontag. He/she (I haven't decided which yet) will be up as soon as I've finished! Its so cool because they felt gives them all different personalities. You start making one thing and it can change to something else as you go. Weird eh?"

Plushies! Oh this is so cute. I can't sew to save my life. I love to see fantasy sewing projects thanks to that. Your work on the eyes definitely paid off. They're great. ^^

1 Stephanie 'Illontai' Schauer replies: "Ohhh new smileys! ohh but no dragon one...*pouts* Opps, sorry! Thank you for your lovely comment. a few years ago i thought i couldn't sew either then i got the most wonderful dragon pattern from a woam nin America called Melinda Small. I haven't stopped sewing since! Horontus actually has no stitches whatsoever in him, all of it is just weaving the fibre with a needle - very therapuetic. Its the sewing for people who don't have time to sew or use a machine and dont mind stabbing themselves once in awhile lol. Really glad you liked him, he's my baby."

Oh! It's sooo cute! So wonderfully cute!! 14 I don't understand how you did that, but it's really really nice. The eyes are beautiful too and a nice colour. I love blue... 2 I'd buy one it I ever saw something like it in a store! So cuuute!

1 Stephanie 'Illontai' Schauer replies: "Thank you, thank you. I know, its really hard to expalin the whole needle-felting process. Once I have my pattern businees up and running (raises arms in prayer) I'll ttry and put up some tutorials and photos of what you actually do. It is soooooooo much easier than sewing, seriously anyone can do it as long as you know your basic shapes 10"

I love sewing... too bad I suck at it. I read about felting in a magazine, and it said to acheive that look you throw it in a dryer with tennis balls. O.o Looking at this peice, with all the detail, I find that hard to beleive...

16 Stephanie 'Illontai' Schauer replies: "Really? Maybe that was wet felting, there's a difference. Wet felting is where you rub the fibres with netting, hot water and soap to create flat sheets like you buy in stores whilst dry felting like I did here is just manipulating the dry fibres with a special barbed needle. I think some people put their finished wet felting in the washing machine so it felts a little bit more but certainly not dry felting or you'd lose the detail. Thanks for commenting!"

*gasp!* That is probably the cutest thing I've ever seen.

:-) Stephanie 'Illontai' Schauer replies: "Thank you so much, that was what i was aiming for. He was supposed to be a baby dragon at first but he looked too grown up and fae-like when i was done, so i simply added my faery swirls to him and he looked so cute! Thanks for the comment!"

This is one snazzy little dude! The face is very well-done. Sewing and anything related are failing-points of mine, so I can't really pick out anything you did exceptionally well, or what you didn't, but I love this guy. The swirlies on his body are great and I just love the way he's sitting. Really cute. The colors are great, too. Keep up the good work, man! Love it.

:-) Stephanie 'Illontai' Schauer replies: "I'm glad you liked Horontus. Don't worry, I'm not good with painting etc. so it's hard for me to pick out what's wrong too. I just stare in awe. I promise I have one more felting piece to come and some watercolours - whee!"

The eyes! I never knew you could do such a thing with felt! This is the cutest little critter around! Do, please do make more of them and sell!

So cool... I'm going to have to learn this sort of thing sometime. I want more stuffed animals that I make myself on and around my bed!

Ahem. I like Horontus. I especially love the eyes. Oh, and because I can't quite see in this picture: does he have wings or not? Just curious...
