SciFi and Fantasy Art: Mistophiles ('00)

This is a character portrait done for my friend Duncan (sorry it took me so long). Mistophiles is an oracle cat from Rifts, currently travelling in the desert of the New West. He is wearing a parka made from a Millenium Tree leaf, and he carries the Staff of the Wind.

I consider Rifts to be sci-fi, so even though you can't see Mistophiles' laser pistol, I know it's there and that's why you won't find this in my fantasy gallery.

As a side note, I really hate shading black fur. :-P

mechanical pencil and graduated pencils, 9x12 drawing paper, 6-00

You might sometime check out Ratha's Creature (by Clare Bell) and its companion movels if you can locate them. They are out of print now, but this picture immediately brought up images from that world... Love all of your work, by the way... Hope to see more! ^_^

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "Sounds familiar . . . I think I may have read those. "

Damn, this is probably IMO one of the best works of art I have ever seen, on Elfwood or anywhere else. Just excellent. I get an impression of mountain peaks and vast distances. Feels like a winter wind coming from the background. I just can't compliment you enough on this one.

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "Thanks very much. I do really like how this one turned out. "

I'm not generally into furries, but this is very well executed. He looks very realistic 2

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "Thank you - I rarely draw anthros, so it's nice to hear that they look okay. "

I do not use this word much but: woow. This is so impressive, I love it, though I'm not usually fond of anthro or furry art. But this looks so natural and beautiful, and the shading is just masterful.

WOW, he's cute, really good draw, I like the way you use pencil (background, details, shading etc). GREAT PIC.

Being a fanatic CATS fan, I will immediately make the point that somewhere in the creation of this character, the Magical Mr. Mistoffelees was referenced. Similar name and markings, y'see.
That being said, I must now worship your skills in shading, particularily those skills which involve black fur. He's coolness. His staff in particular. And how the parka looks like a leaf, but it's a parka. And this and that and etcetera.

*smiles softly* He's beautiful. The stillness of his soul is so perfect here. Amazing.
