SciFi and Fantasy Art: Storms of Corvidia

The storms on the avian world of Corvidia are frequent and violent. All that the inhabitants of this blustery mountainous planet can do is sit them out and seek shelter. The Raven in the picture looks out at the storm from the relative safety and shelter of his aerie, with a rarther detached state of mind, but wondering how many lives the storm will claim; how many will hear the Shadow Lord (Corvidian angel of death) comming for them tonight.

I like the effect of the lighting from the candles and the lantern. Looks like the Corvidians have a strange mix of the old ways and high-technologies.

28 Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "  yes they do; kind of of like Vulcans in star trek in a way, except of course they don't practice the ways of peace. Although there are 'high tech' cities on Corvidia, many do prefer to retreat into a wild and free existence and sometimes can be savage and animal like. Also religion plays a big part in their lives; in fact many of their beliefs and how they behave is enforced under an iron fist, or should i say talon. It struck me that gothic like architecture fitted the Corvidians well; dark and brooding;slightly sinister which is what they are. "

Just wanted to comment again on this one. I really like the way the lantern seems to light up the lower right hand corner, it's such a great effect!

John Farley's right you are very good at making a spotlight effect in your work...I really like that effect *stares in honesty*

2 Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "thank you, this is one of my favourite pictures of my Corvidian characters. Though my picture editing program did most of the work to create the effect, the spotlight effect in the corner, it still took me a while to get it look right. i'm happy with the end result."

Fantastic lighting in this! I particularly like how it portrays the way things outside look even darker from a lighted area.

:-) Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "what can i say...wow! that’s proved it, there’s definitely something strange about corvids-guess that’s why i like them so much."
