SciFi and Fantasy Art: Aeolus

Aeolus, a skydragon. Like a bird such as the swift, these dragons spend almost their entire lives on the wing, as a result their hind legs evolved into a second pair of wings. As a weight saving measure, even their spines have become soft and feather-like.

*First comment hyperspace jump* Verrry cool, I like all of it but the clouds really stand out for some reason. That’s not a critisism, it just look good. The dragon is an original concept and even his anatomy. Not your typical lizard.

:-) Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "thanks! i felt like doing something different for a change after seeing so many dragon pictures on this site. the clouds i created on the computer using different shades of the same colour and using the paintbrush tool at different transluncent settings. "

Very cool. I like the back legs winged like that. I bet it’s great at gliding on the air! Very nice work

:-) Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "thanks for your comment! yes i guess it would be great at gliding; it could fly using one pair of wings while resting the otherpair. Though i imagine it would be very cumbersome if this creature were to alight on the ground. Like the swift-the bird i was sort of inspired by, because its wings are so long and it’s legs too short it has great difficulty walking and taking off from the ground."

Multiple-winged creatures are nice in fantasy because they are mostly... unreal 2. Better. The wing texture is very good and clear, I think I can learn from it to do leathery wings better (all of the wings are interesting).

:-) Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "thanks, yes, thank goodness for fantasy- being more of a sci-fi fan i usually draw more ’realistic’ creatures so to speak, in this case i just wanted to draw a dragon that was slightly different. thanks for visiting! "

Ooh, neat concept, and well executed!

So now these guys can fly double fast and outrun dragons and gryphons and suchlike? xD

:-) Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "he, he, i guess it could, though i imagine more from stamia since it can fly almost indefinitly."
