SciFi and Fantasy Art: Blood in the stone

The corvid facination with shiny objects is well known, but none more so than this amulet. An ancient gemstone of unknown origin and purpose, which Corvidians find irressistably allurring. Though no test, no solid scientific  evidence has been found to prove that the amulet possess some sort of power, the more superstitious amongst Ravenkind say that it has mind-altering abilities. As well as the strange magnetism it seems to have on Corvidia's inhabitants, it also seems to invoke feelings of intense rage, anger and lust. As a result many great and bloody battles have been fought over it. And having seen every avian who has had possesion of the stone killed or murdered with it, it was superstitiously hidden away on a remote planet, in fear of it's evil being released once more into the galaxy.

Another well-detailed peice. Are those runes on the post he is standing on?

2 Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "thank you. No, they're not runes, but i did consider putting them on at one stage, perhaps as a warning, but i don't really have much knowledge of them. the patterns and markings on the post are my attempt at celtic knotwork, which are as i discovered quite tricky to draw, so i kept them simple. Awesome picture! I love the detail in the feathers and in the stone. Beautifully done. The integration of drawing and background lend it an appropriately eerie feel. Nicely done! =)

P.S. And thanks for making the tour, I am loving it as a crow/raven fan myself!

12 Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "your welcome, and i glad you liked it. i found your two headed raven story and the picture very intriging, it reminded me of a sort of similar and rather in a way quite scary experience i had, but with a crow, when i was walking back from college; the route we took went past a churchyard, when a crow landed right in front of us on top of a gravestone. At the time we thought nothing of it. but a about two weeks later we were told some rather shocking news that one of our college tutors had died; suicide apparently. i wonder if it was trying to foretell something?"

Neat story, using the classic evil magic object plug with sentient ravens instead of humans. Very interesting. I like the strong aura of foreboding here, what with the dark colors and the bright lining on the clouds above, while all else is in shadow. And of course, the Corvid's look of fascination with the amulet. Portent, omens...something's about to happen...

1 Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "Thank you! The little story i made up was a sort of spur of the moment thing; i just thought it to be quite fitting."

Beautiful job on the Raven and its plumage, and after reading the description, those blood-stained talons give a wonderful sense of foreboding, as does the darkness of the picture as a whole. Nice work!

ho man; and I just noticed it has blood on its talons! Who's beak did it rip that from?

This is a lovely picture with a fascinating story and excellent ambiance. It has a nice, coherent feel -- the colors were all well chosen. A !

I just wanted to stop by and say thanks for the marvelous tour. Not only does it display some mighty fine art, but your comments on each piece were thoughtful and informative. I feel the smarter for having taken it. 12

Impressive, fitting the foreground to the Terregen background so well... looks nice.

Cool story, too.
