SciFi and Fantasy Art: Strige in the city

"Vampires, this planet's obsessed with them; with no end of stories,  movies and other franchise about them, of these strange  undead creatures  with elongated cannines, that shy from the light , glamourised by the media as either these swathe, sophisticated characters, oozing sex appeal, or as the leather clad, gun-totting  urban vampire warriors...

All of them just the maligned outcomes of the truth distorted over time.  When my people first came to this planet over five thousand years ago, we were the vampires they once and truely feared, we didn't need to grow teeth to bite, nothing could stop us,  as we flew by night, our cries of exultation echoed through the darkness, striking fear into the hearts of all who heard us. Earth proved to be a rich food source, a sucessful move on our part; perhaps too sucessful.

As our numbers grew, our actions became more keenly felt, causing panic amongst the human populace, which the encroachment of new religions, came new ideas, with acussations of witchcraft and persecution, as the humans turned on each other and started slaughtering these innocents. What had we started?  We never imagined the that such a beast  was latent in  the human soul, and it frightened us.

As such, we fled from this world and did not return for hundreds of years to come, our existence confined to mythological history, and all in all for the most part forgotten unless you ever take the effort to look into the past.  Just as well really, with the advancement of our stealth technology, we can move as shadows, in this modern world of thiers without causing a swirl of dust. We still visit this world, more cautious, but our visits will not be kind."

My Corvidian characters are based loosely on creatures called Striges. or the Strix which a term for witches and demons respectively. Striges were demons from ancient Roman mythology, which were birds that preyed on children and young men to drink their blood.

I think these vampires would be much cooler, of course arriving in giant spaceships makes that all the better. This is great, I love the single light in the background, like some old building in a forgotten area of town. Just a great mood you created here.

:-) Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "mmm...yes, although i’m certainly a fan of vampire films, but underneath, they’re all pretty much them same, i wanted to move away from the typical image for a change, nor would they have any of the typical weakness’. "

The story and image are excellent. I love the detail and the color is wonderful, dark and gritty. I love the fog effect and the lighting is absolutley spot on.

:-) Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "thank you. "
