SciFi and Fantasy Art: Vykar model

Another photo that I took of one of my homemade models. This creature is from a planet called Thierieull, used by Ravens as their place of excecution for traitors, criminals and the inferior. Thierieull (also often called Hellgate) is a scorchingly hot world orbiting twin suns, and the reason why these creatures have an asbestos like hide which also makes them highly resistant to heat and energy weapon fire. These nightmarish creatures are highly aggressive and will kill and eat anything on sight. As well as being equipped with sharp teeth and a pair of huge, razor-sharp scythe shaped foreclaws, they also can spit a highly corrosive jet of acid and carry a deadly sting  in the blade-like tip of their long whip-like tails.  These beasts when standing errect are well over two metres in height and are about 5-6 metres in length.  They run in a downslung, almost horizontal position, with foreclaws tucked in beneath and can reach speeds of about 40-50kph.

Media used: Model made out of card, silicon putty, papier mache, acrylic paint. The model stands about 17 cm high and is about 42cm in length from nose to tail.

This looks like a creature from Abe’s Odyssey on Playstation One. Was it the inspiration?

:-) Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "your dead right, yes, i particulary liked the head shape of the scrabs, though admittedly it did in the end turn out quite similar."

Well you took a great idea and made it better, it looks allot more aggressive now, it looks how I would have imagined it in the first place. They should have had you on the production! I love your imagination, your ships are great and well thought out.

I know that someone all ready said this but, it looks a lot like the Munch’s Odessy thing for the X-box. 1 I really love that game, it is one of my favorites!! I really like it how you gave him a tail and arms, it looks very nice. You should make a Meep! 12

:-) Kimberly A. Taylor replies: "thanks! i’ll have to check out just what a meep is; i’ve only played the first two games of oddworld since i only have a playstation 2. i was gutted when i found out that munch’s oddysey was only out on xbox. yes it was indeed based on the scrabs, but with a few modifications, my own sort of a tribute to a truly great game. i needed to have a really distinctive monster for one of my novels i’m writing, it seemed to be perfect as a basis."
