SciFi and Fantasy Art: Death of Magic

I started this as a doodle- it expanded a lot. Originally, she was a sort of grey dappled, but the greyscale markers faded a lot in the past five years or so. When it was scanned, the dappling on her rump was just faint blotchiness, so I experimented. It's an alegory of the natural clashing of Magic and spirituality with science and technology- The unicorn does not die, but only sheds the limiting physical shell, to become faith and creative thought... A variant on the Pheonix myth, I guess. I like the idea more than the image.

Thid reminds me of a piece done by Kirin Stein-Heller (also an artist at Elfwood, and one of my insperations) I really like this drawing though don't get me wrong its very creative.

This is really excellent, in away it reminds me of "The Last Unicorn" just because of how she looks... It tells it's own story without words, just like a dance.

I haven't been here for a while but just posted a picture in my gallery that remind me of this. Interesting how we both came up with a similar theme.. 2
It's a good picture, I like the pose.

I love the concept.. and I think you portrayed the transition from real/concrete to spiritual very well.. really really spiffy thought and execution 2

I'm glad that you like the image, and I'm sorry if the nudity offends you- I disagree about it's necessity, though. The unicorn-woman represents the elements of wild magic, that which civilization and technology destroys, and to clothe her at all would imply that she had already yielded to that technology, rather than being suddenly and completely overcome. You will note that I don't expose a lot of flesh in my images, and I hope that as you continue along your art experience, you become comfortable in the understanding that nudity and pornography are not the same.
