SciFi and Fantasy Art: Moon Princess

This is one of my favorite pictures ever! I love the colors, but I especially love the way her skin turned out. I love the moon, but it never seems to turn out really well in my pictures. I'm happy with the result of this one though. She's actually the first time I used the pose, and Zephyr was the second.

8"x10" watercolor on 140lb. watercolor paper.

What!? No comments on this one?! I love this one. It has a good background(for you)and the blue looks just right. I can't beleave that you haven't had any comments on the best stuff you've got! I will now go and shoot all the bad people who haven't commented on your beautiful site!

Her eyes! Her amazing eyes! And the who picture is so vibrant, withought looking the slightest bit ridiculous! Amazing! But its kinda hard to tell what’s going on with her arms.

62 Sarah J Hartzell replies: "I refer you to the last comment on the arms thing, and thank you for loving the eyes!"

I love paintings with cool color themes...this is quite lovely. I love her lips and her hair!

My only crit involves the cloth folds--they look a little rushed. When I see clothing painting in incredibly realistic ways, it’s one of those things that always catches my eyes...it seems like a simple thing but it can add so much to your work (and believe me, I have miles to go before I can say I paint clothing as well as I want to) in the way of visual interest.

I really like her pale, icy skin. You really captured the idea of a cold night filled with pale moonlight. 2

62 Sarah J Hartzell replies: "You’re right about the folds-by the time I got to them I was getting tired and just rushed to get it done, but that’s been about a year ago now, so I will just try to do better the next time I paint it. As for her hands, they are crossed over her other leg so you can’t see them. But, my philsophy is that if I have to explain what’s happening in the picture, then it isn’t successfully telling the story I meant to convey."
