Hi! As you already know my name, I'm going to make an effort to tell you more about myself. I currently live in Germany, but I'm an American citizen.  I'm trying to get my art out on the web so I can sell it for others to enjoy. I've been into art since I was a little kid, but I've only just started painting in the last year. I love it! Here's some more about me:

    Favorite list:

Book: Anything Harry Potter, I love the Jane Austen books, Christian romance, and some fantasy. I really don't read that many fantasy books, which is odd, but I'm sure I will in the future.

Movie: Harry Potter (of course),Transformers, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Equilibrium, Shrek movies, Mystery Men, Wayne's World, Dirty Dancing, Ever After, Beauty and the Beast(Disney version), Sleepy Hollow, The Corpse Bride, Cars, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, She's All That, Ten Things I Hate About You, and A Walk in the Clouds.

TV: Third Rock From the Sun, Battlestar Galactica, NCIS, Are You Being Served, My Hero, My Family, Mystery Theater, Quantum Leap, Star Trek TOS and Voyager, Two and a Half Men, Heros, and I'm sure something else, but I can't remember what.

    Color: Purple

    State: Oklahoma

Fantasy Creature: Faerie, Elves (tall kind), Mermaid, Sylph, Siren, and Vampire. They're pretty awesome!

Flower: Rose and Calla Lily. I can't decide which I like more!

Music: The Last of the Mohicans soundtrack, Skillet, Evanescence, Kutless, Barlow Girl, Chicago, Plumb, Firelight, Nightwish, Within Temptation, the Pride and Prejudice soundtrack, and the Corpse Bride soundtrack.  There are also a lot of songs I like that aren't on the list b/c the artist isn't necessairly my fav, but it would take too long to write it all down.

Activity: Singing at the top of my lungs, dancing like an idiot, painting, watching tv, drawing, taking photographs, playing with my baby dogs(they aren't puppies, but they're so cute that they might as well be!), talking to my friends and family, surfing the net, hanging out, eating, sleeping, having real discussions about real topics, making new cd's, making my art videos, and just being me.

Artist: Nene Thomas(ha! you thought i was going to say Amy Brown, didn't you?), Linda Ravenscroft, Jasmin Ann Beckett-Griffin, Matt Hughes, Amy Brown(Okay, so I do like her. Give me a break, who doesn't?), My sister-Jessica A. Hartzell, who is also an artist on here, and many others that I found on the web while surfing, but I didn't know their names. Thank you for inspiring me to do better!

I think that's probably more than you wanted to know, so I'm going to stop talking now. Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy my art. Feel free to comment, but only if you have something nice or constructive to say. Bye!

    Hi there,
You have a wonderfull gallery here and I really enjoyed looking at it. I would like to ask how you colour your backgrounds, do you paint your backgrounds first and then the fairy or do you paint the fairy first and than fill in the background surround her? I’m struggling with that.

62 Sarah J Hartzell replies: "I start by drawing the whole picture out. Then I lay the first wash, and yes, I do the back ground mostly first. I do the skin, then the clothing, and the hair last. Each painting has it’s own story as to what I did for the background. You’ll notice that in my first paintings I didn’t even bother with a background. Now, I spend more time on each picture on the background than the actual subject. If you have any questions about a specific picture, just ask. I’m always happy to help."
