SciFi and Fantasy Art: Jupiter

Rising huge before us, even the smallest among them dwarfing the largest structures on Earth” Beagle transmission log: 13/01/2053

Anomalous cloud patterns detected within clam sections of The Great Red Spot. Clouds appear to move independently to most wind currents. Sensors indicate elevated concentrations of various elements within these clouds. Such clouds appear to be quasi-organic in nature and possibly represent new life forms. The idea of “cloud creatures” comes from Arthur C. Clarke’s “2020: Odyssey Two” and I must have partially remembered it when I was devising the various different creatures for the planets. Jupiter is the largest of the planets in the solar system; it is sometimes referred to as a “failed star”. The clouds in the upper atmosphere are transformed into the distinctive bands by Jupiter’s incredible magnetic field and heat currents within the planet.

Forget the book but the description of Jupiter was thousand-mile sight lines and huge panorama's. Not quite there with this one, but then again, no one has even been to Jupiter either. An interesting picture anyway.

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "Mep, guess I could have done the perspective and sense of space better. I still like the lightning in the Jupitor creature, which, unfortunately is dificult to distinguish. Maybe a remake is called for?"
