SciFi and Fantasy Art: Mountian Pheonix

This picture goes to show that having reference pictures is a good idea. The pheonix looks quite large against the back ground....oh well. First time using a border around a picture.

I like very much the shading on it, and the tail.I think i have a thing with tails...Anyway,i can never make a bird's tail thaaat good!Congratulations!

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "Thanks! Maybe, if you want to get better with tails find some good photo references. That's what I used for this picuture."

This bird is drawn so very well! I cannot draw a convincing bird to save my life... Super job!

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "Well, I had very good reference photographs and I like to observe birds (my mother liked to drag me on bird watching expeditions, now I actually go on my own free will.)"

Nice work! Don't feel too bad about the background; I can't do them to save my life. Just one thing: the wings' anatomy and feather patterns could be a little more defined. The wing closer to us seems to lack an elbow joint, for example.

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "Thanks, I try to get my bird pictures as real as possible, observing birds in real life and doing lots of bird related pictures."

Holy sincerity!! O.O That is sooo well-drawn!! I only have one ting: the wing nearest us seems smaller. But that could just be the angle.

IT LOOKS SO REAL! >< The head especially! You're so good at birds!!!

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "I did have a bit of a problem with that wing.I like birds- I guess it comes from beaing carted all round the place with a mad keen birdwathcer of a mother since I could walk. Can't say I was always greatfull 2 (17km walk, tropical summer heat+ humidity, not enough water, you get the picture. That is called a relaxing holiday.)"

This is my favorite pheonix. Very beautiful.

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "Thank you. Though I reckon the pheonix could do with some lesons in elegance, but that's what you get if you mix hoatzin with anything."

1 Shelz Keast replies: "Indeed, yay for pencil drawings!"

Pretty, I like it. I like the long legs and the head is very well done. The left wing (no wait... right... er, the one closest to "camera") is a little short... anatomically messed up a bit. But I don't think it hurts to overall picture too much. I like that this pheonix is a little different than normal pheonixes... pretty and simple. Yay pencil drawings!

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "I think the main fault with the wing is a bit of bad fore-shortening."
