SciFi and Fantasy Art: Encounter III (second take)

Before 1998 - Pencil drawing - 44cm x 31cm

This one is my (and not only my) absolute favorite of the small 'encounter-series'. It is a scene out of a role playing game I was leading once, and I painted it for the player of the knight that found the wounded dragon. It was a really touching scene at that time and I think I managed to catch a bit of this feeling we all had in this picture. Actually some people liked it so muched that they asked me to draw a copy for them, they even payed me for that!

Update: I recently uploaded a picture of the second version instead of the original since the contrast is better and I have a photo without reflections.

Neat! I can just feel the tension... I like the shading and the way you drew that dragon!

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "You seem to return to this part of the woods quite often, Elf Ranger. Thank you for the repeated visits and comments!"

Yup... Returned again... I just like commenting a bit at a time for any excuse to come back...

3 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "*lol* Wow! I guess I have a real fan here..."

awww... he's so cute! (i have to add that i find the oddest things cute) No but seriously, the way the dragons curled up there, its just... i want to shoo the knight away and tell him to leave alone the dragon. He's most probably having wonderful dragony dreams. Anyways wonderful picture! Keep it up
Take care
Jeste.

1 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Hehe, don' worry, they did not slay that dragon. They actually made friends with him. And even though the dragon was badly hurt he protected the knight against the "bad" dragon that returned to resume the fight between the two mighty rivals. "

Ow.. you're still doing little dragons! This one is Q'te beyond belief! they're perfcet!

12 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Nah, this one is an old piece. It has been on Elfwood for quite a while. I just uploaded a better photo, that's why it's freshly framed. But thank you! I'm glad you like my "little" (O.o) dragon! ;-)"

Oh. The poor thing....It makes me sad8 you did a realy good job though, but im still sad.

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Well, it's quite a sad view, isn't it? The role playing game scene this picture is based on was really touching, too. "

Very good picture. A little scratchy around the face. was it sleeping or waiting for the knight. Otherwise very nice

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Neither nor. Actually it was lying in the forest to die. It crashed there after an in-flight fight with another dragon (which was also responsible for all the scratches and bruises) and the knight found it. The young dragon had just enough strength left to give the knight a hint for his quest and to protect the human as a last noble deed during the final attack from the fierce adult dragon circling above the forest. "

This is really cute. I'd expect to see it whilst driving through the mountains up where I live. Just looking through the trees and seeing this giant slumbering dragon in a mess of broken trees and debris.
I love it!

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "The poor dragon isn't slumbering. He's hurt, since he was cast out of the sky by a stronger and older rival. "
