SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Saint Hluthar Statue In ElenvinaOctober 2004 - 21cm x 27cm - pencil on printer paper
This is the statue of Saint Hluthar slaying a demon. It stands in Elenvina, the capital city of the duchy of Nordmarken. I drew it for the DSA provincial paper 'Nordmärker Nachrichten'. | |

| 3 Nov 2004 | Jessica 'Jeste' Schreib | Wow! I love your pencil work! This is sooo amazing. Hope everything goes well, and we will see more of your art soon! Take care Jeste. Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you, Jessica! I hope these three to four months of learning will be over soon and with a good outcome myself! ;-) " | |
| 3 Nov 2004 | Kelsey Hottman | I love your use of light variences in the picture. Amazing! The style is unique and excellent! Lovely! It really looks liek a statue that could have been erected *snicker* in 15th century germany actually.. Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you, Kelsey. I aimed for such a historic look. " | |
| 4 Nov 2004 | Kristina 'Aryana' Siers | Wow, it's fantastic! Great shading! It looks wonderful with the market-place and the people around it! Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you Aryana! It was great fun to do. Especially since I have to study so much at the moment. That was a nice recreation." | |
| 5 Nov 2004 | Kerstin ´kolibri´ Eiben | Wow, this is spectacular, with the playing of light and shadow. You truly captured the heroic feeling of the battle between Hluthar and the demon. Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thanks a lot, Kerstin! Are you playing DSA? It sounds like you know the story ..." | |
| 5 Nov 2004 | Christel 'Kris' Scheja | Hey, well done, It looks really realistic... exspeically with the people (so that we can se how big he is). And all these details! Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you, Christel! Indeed, the picture needs those people, first for a size reference but then also for looking more lively. I'm glad you like it! " | |
| 7 Nov 2004 | Uta ´Freawyn´ Hesse | Oh, cool idea of doing a statue. Very oriented of those of Saint George, huh? But its very greatly done, really. I like the place as well and that you can see how huge it is because of the people looking at it so well. The statue itself wouldn't survive very long on my world Astaraité... because this world is ruled by dragons!! Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Hehe, a world ruled by dragons, yes? Well, this statue doesn't depict a dragon. Hluthar fights against a demon, not a dragon. At least in DSA most dragons (as mostly all living creatures) are not really best friends with demons. And you're absolutely right, Saint George stood model for motive and style of this picture. " | |
| 10 Dec 2004 | Elf Rager | Awsome pic! The shading is awsome, the lighing's neato too. Keep up the good work! *thumbs up* Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thanks a lot, Elf Ranger! It's a bit too fuzzy, I think. I alwas wanted to ink it but never had the time or energy to do that." | |

| 20 Nov 2007 | Linnea Purple-chocolate Freij | Isn't that originally Swedish statue of St George and the dragon?(St. Göran och draken)??????The only thing missing is the maiden who symbolize a town(can't remember wish one. Maybe Gotenburg?) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Indeed, I had many paintings of St. George and the Dragon in mind when I drew this. However, I do not know the statue you mentioned. I'll have to look that one up in Google. Beatiful statues are always worth a look! " | |
