SciFi and Fantasy Art: Dragon Study: Yakarm

January 2004 - Pencil drawing - 65cm x 38cm

The birthday-gift for my sister. It's a copy from an oil painting I'm working on since spring last year. The original is not finished yet and will still take a long time until it is. But she liked the dragon so much that I just drew him for her.
Yakarm is the dragonlord of Meyelor (the planet where my story takes place) and the father of Niknik. In this drawing he is too smooth though. I didn't have the patience nor the time for scales. And packing it into a reasonable size did make it even smoother by destroying all pencil structures.

I love it! It is a truly unique way of drawing a dragon, I really love the head, well done, give yourself a pat on the back!

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Hehe, thank you! 2
Darn! I don't remember that funny quote about pats on the back...! My stupid lazy memory! "

Absolutely magnificent! I can never do perspective like that! I'd wish you luck on your drawing, but it's obvious that your skill far surpasses the need for it.

3 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you Danny! 2 I'll take the luck anyway. You should never underestimate what luck's good for. ,-)"

Ah, finally I see the entire body of the famous Yakarm. He hides himself on my wall. ;-D
I like the smooth look.

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Haha! I hope soon I'll be able to show you the whole picture this drawing originates from. It will turn out great! At least I hope so at the moment! ;-)"

I love this...
I especially love how, with the lighting...
The wings seem to fade into the paper...like it goes on forever 2

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Interesting. I've never seen it that way, since I always have the original painting in mind, where the wings are contrasted by the night sky. Really, that's a very interesting idea ... "

WOW!(O_O)

3 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Hehe, that's probably exactly what people on Meyelor think, when they see that dragon - before running, praying or dying, that is. ;-) Thank you so much! "

Wow, I love the head! It's so....I don't have a word for it, but that's what it is!! :b
And the black looks so velvity and soft, as if you could reach out and touch it!! Great job!

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you again! Hmm. I really should finish that oil painting ... "

How many hours did you put into the production of this image? (and please don’t tell me 24 hours)
