SciFi and Fantasy Art: Between worlds II

my difficulty with drawing and painting is that i never exercise... i hate that! so i just wanted to push myself to do something different, where there should not be any rules about body size, proportions etc... anything can look weird, or better, should look weird... just to break free a little bit and try something else, discover another part of myself...

i'm pretty happy with it. it was quite difficult to do the shady part with the highlighter first and then remember each thing i was going to do for the black marker, but it was good, i could try out a new thing and i really liked it. now i really wonder how it would look under black light influence...:) i called it 'between worlds II', because i was also listening to psy trance by then, and i made it just after the 'between worlds' picture (which i took down again from this gallery - "between wolrds" being the name of shakta's song that made me do the picture and i kept listening to it during the whole procedure)... so i thought, that these words would suit the picture from the lyrics, even though i was listening to some other sound while making it (mostly infected mushroom). it just really seemed like a gathering of different creatures between worlds...:)

Have you read "The book of imaginary beings" by Jorge Luis Borges? I think this illustration could be a wonderful illustration for its cover.

It also reminds me of an ancient astronomycal map.

Congratulations, you did a magnificent job.

Marbach replies: "wow... i feel very honored by you saying it would suit as a cover... that's one of my biggest dreams and i still feel i'm soooo... far away from it...! thanks so much for your comment, juan2!!! i don't know the book but i'll make sure to check it out2! thanks again2"

This is really interesting! I like your choice to use one color exclusively, and that actually sounds like a really good excercise. It's a really interesting piece, and it takes quite a while to see all of the figures. (Actually, I'm not sure if I've seen them all, yet!) It's really intriguing, keep up the good work!

2 Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "wow, thanks for your nice comment girl! nice to read2! yeah these little fellows like to hide quite a lot... i'm myself sometimes not sure if i did really see all of them;-)! thanks again2!"

I like the randomness. Especially the anthro-snail and the mushroom's expression.

2 Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "thanks girl2! yeah i was really surprised by the anthro-snail myself that i always keep her in mind for some more of her...;-)"

That sounds like fun, maybe I'll try this too. I'm sure it was fun to draw so freely! I like how there's so many fantasy things in the same picture and it was a good choice to colour this in black and yellow..well there's white too..but anyway it's nice.^^ I love the mushroom!

2 Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "thank you ines for your lovely comment2! yes, indeed you should try this out - it was soooo... good not to have to stick to ANY anatomy rules... i should do this more often, it helps to free the mind and to get new body studies done... thanks again2!"

I can’t believe you did this with a highlighter! Very resourceful! I love all of the characters and details in this. It is very interesting to look at.

:-) Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "yeah, in fact the idea came more because i had not much material with me but a highlighter... sometimes, traveling with less makes you creative;-) thanks for your comment heather, i’m glad you like the picture2!"
28 Dec 2007:-) Shiri Rae Kc_Burdette
Very ravish... Awesome

:-) Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "thanks shiri - indeed, it has to turn out ravish if i listen to psychedelic music while doing it;-) thanks for your comment2!"
26 Jan 2008:-) Norma Peters
This is delightful. 2 It’s so much fun to just sit down and draw something without having to worry about rules or art theory.

:-) Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "...you say it, norma!!! i felt so free while doing it, i should do that more often... everyone should do that more often, it opens up so much of your mind for other ideas later on!!! thank you for your comment2!"
