after watching the old czech fairy tale movie 'the little mermaid' from 1976 i really felt like drawing the little mermaid. inspired by the looks of the movie, i eventually ended up creating my own little mermaid like i had imagined her since i couldn't really get along with the looks of the movie...
on the picture, she just decided not to kill her loved one and his new bride, so there she transforms to sea foam forever under the purple sky of the morning, looking back at the king's ship...
very few people actually know the real fairy tale of the little mermaid written by hans christian andersen. it is very sweet but also very very sad... the most famous version of disney was changed in the ending of course - as on most of their produced fairy tales (or else there would be loads of terrified kids running out of the movie theaters bawling their eyes off - their parents behind them;-) hehe...)
coloured pencils, nail polish and glitterpens. (2005)
So sad, you have portrayed this very well. The details are stunning. I would love to see the mixed media in real life. Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "thanks so much linda for your really lovely comment!!! it means a lot! i'm glad you like it!!! take care!!!"
