SciFi and Fantasy Art: Lost land

This is one of my favourite pictures. I initially wanted to draw an elfegirl. Because of her position I got the idea of drawing her like she would get ready to hunt. But somehow her face didn't seem too female to me, and the expression was so sad... so then I suddenly had a whole story in my head:

there was a young elfeboy who was sent away from home to get to know more things about the world, to become more wise, to grow up, to learn lots of things outside his home. He did. But he didn't know that during his absence his homeplace was attacked by some evil creatures. So after several years he returned from his long journey, and found his homeland destroyed, deserted, lost. He couldn't believe his eyes and broke down in shock.
