| 6 Mar 2003 | Oshun GUERRE | Loading...i have been in the yoruba religion since i was 3months old and my gaurdian angel is oshun, that is why when i was crowned oshun i was named the doll of oshun. i went through your website and the drawings that you placed to be seen by viewers , and somne of the stories that you attached to the pictures are not all correct. you see : yansan: is the mother of the cemetary and death/ohter wise known as "oya". shango : the king of fire and thunder and is the most beautiful male irisha to the eyes of the female orishas, he has the most carisma & the most wanted ogun: is the prince/warrior of the deep forest and was never to be seen by anyone until oshun lead him out with her singing and her dance of with honey There are other stories that were not quite accurrate . anyways ,if you need help on precising your stories please feel free to email me and i will respond. | |
| 22 Dec 2003 | Son of Oya | Loading...It is true that Chango is the king of fire and thunder. However, the description of her is correct. Chango is the lightning that strikes the ground. Whereas, Oya is the lightning in the sky (a.k.a "heat lightning").
Remember - there are several paths to each Orisha - some/many are still unknown.
When utilizing the Internet to learn about Yoruba-based religions (or reading books), it is important to keep in mind that the information we gather is never going to be exact. Many facets of the religion differ from religion to religion (i.e. Vodun and Santeria, etc.). Moreover, some particluar sects within each of the religions also focus on particular aspects that others might not know.
By the way, the picture is beautiful.

Carneiro, you are not wrong in naming Oya- Yansa. The Orisha aren't that petty in the name department. In Africa, the Orisha Chango has many different names depending on the location and the tribe, but he still the same Orisha. Not to mention there are many variations in the stories and rituals of the Orisha, just like in Greece. You have a beautiful picture that would do her proud. Wonderful colors. Maybe you can study a little Vodou and make a great picture of Papa Ghede, the very pimp guardian the cemetary. ^_^ Much Love, Tricky

| 23 Nov 2005 | Olora | Loading...I love Oya/Yansan too. She can wear many costumes in purples, reds, bronzes, oranges, and burgundies. She is a warrior, sometimes with a sword, sometimes a flywhisk, always adorned with copper. She rides her horse into the marketplace to amuse herself between battles. She is the cemetery gatekeeper She is the mother of the ancestors Horsewoman of the rapture She leads the army of the dead She is the storm of violet-red She is the wind upon my head
And yes, she is indeed the sexiest of the Orishas. Your particular depiction of Oya/Yansan reveals yet another one of her avatars, perhaps? She is the High Mistress of all Domina.
