SciFi and Fantasy Art: Sword - Amaranth

This is one of the two swords that my Pirate weilds. Cool. It's name is Amaranth, the pirate is named Deranth.

I like this design a lot, the etching on the blade looks nice too. However, what exactly is the thing on the pummle (pommle?) the bottom part? is it a spike or like some string or what. i think that parts needs to be more clear, but otherwise i like this sword a lot

:-) Andy Godbehere replies: "The thing attatched to the pummel is just a ribbon, laid out (and twisted?) as if the sword were on a table or something. So yeah, just a string or something."

o.O you do know that amaranth is a type of grain/ decorative flower, don't you...?

a nifty sword, but i'd suggest changing the name slightly... ^_~

:-) Andy Godbehere replies: "That is very helpful but it is also a flower from greek myth that never fades or loses it's color. The name Amaranth to me symbolizes a sort of enduring beauty, and the sword's weilder Deranth might be known as a little enduring I'd think."
