SciFi and Fantasy Art: Feist's Mara visiting the Cho-ja Empire

I love Raymond Feist. The first time I picked up his book, I was spellbound. I also became intrigued with the Tsurani's side of the Riftwar. I watched Mara grow and change in strength and courage. I cried with her, and exulted with her; she is certainly a force to be respected and admired. This is the first time drawing a character from a book, and I hope I do the great Mara justice. Drawn on Bristol w/ #2 mechanical pencil.

Ohhhh She ahs a certain look about her, prehaps one that says to stay out of her way when in the dark and in her territory! I have yet to read anythign on the Empire books. I'd never heard of them till now, but I am quite curious. Great shading and I am just hypnotized by those eyes! KIU!

Hey, I was trying to figure out the Cho-ja part of the story. I know that they are insectoid in appearance and I was contemplating whether or not they were similar to ants or far from it. I read the wholse series within two or three weeks due to boredom and the fact that i'd read all of the ray feist books my dad had out earlier on in the past month and a half. But the cho-ja are very interesting, the impassive eyes, the chitinious body, but how do they look in your view? sorry to pull away from this awesome Mara, i don't do people, they look all fake and crappy when i draw them. i'll be looking forward to more additions, and hope that someday i too will find a scanner to contribute to the drawing fun!

:-) Andrea T.A. Osakoda replies: "If you do, let me know! I love Feist fanart. The cho-ja are kinda like humanoid-ish ants, in my mind. I've actually toyed with the idea of drawing cho-ja. Maybe after I re-read the series... thank you for the visit!"

I think you definitely do Mara justice!!! You vision of her isn't quite what was in my mind when I read the books, but I think you captured her spirit, self-confidence, and determination really well. Your work is the first I've come across that deals with Fiest's characters, and I love the way you've done them!!! I especially love Mara's eyebrows...they so fit her!!!! I hope I get the chance to see more of your Fiest characters here!!!! Caio!!

i have just started reading daughter of the empire and i am hooked. The look in maras face, the determination to triumph over all adversity is what makes the story work so well and that is captured in this drawing.Have you drawn any Cho-ja.As stated before this is also the first image i have found from the empire books.keep it up bab. ;-).

WOW Mara is my sisters name. I did not know that it was a real name. I thought that my parents made it up!

Why,another Mara-admirer! The Empire-trilogy is my absolute favorite, and it sucks so bad that there hardly is any Feist-art here on elfwood,so I started to make my own2 I'm working on Teani (remember her?The evil woman from DotE) and I totally think we should start some Feist-art community or something10
Anyway, your picture is great, maybe some color to make it look moor vivid?
