SciFi and Fantasy Art: Unicorn Warrior Amber

I really really wish I could've gotten the entire picture scanned in here. The bristol was too big and my picture ended up getting a *little* distorted because it was partially hanging out of the bed. I drew this for my sister (who really loves unicorns). And since we were sitting in the ICU waiting room and I needed to do something, I thought, why not? I found this a little difficult to get the right perspective for the unicorn, but managed to pull through in the end. When it came down to it, I had to either cut off the girl's upper half to get the full effect of the legs in the scan, or nix the legs for the unicorn... I chose the latter. Boyfriend promises he'll get a bigger scanner, but the large ones are expensive, so I'm not holding my breath. But I'll keep on dropping hints.. until then, my art suffers.. *sigh*.

:-) Andrea T.A. Osakoda replies: "*beams* thanks, I really love this one too. I might touch it up.. add more definition.. if I have time!"

oooooooooh, your very good! I love the movement and effect, they both seem to be paying attention to what ever they're doing.

:-) Andrea T.A. Osakoda replies: "I've been reading a lot of fantasy books with fight scenes on horseback, and the best fighters ride in concert. I'd imagine a unicorn would be even better because of the high intelligence and the etheral grace. Thank you!!"

The way you drew that unicorn is PERFECT! I ride HORSES (and they look almost the same) and you drew it VERY WELL and realistic! Great job! I wanna see the WHOLE picture though! *sobs* 8

:-) Andrea T.A. Osakoda replies: "Thank you for the wonderful compliment on the unicorn! I really love this pic, and yes, I wish I had more room for the whole thing.. but it was a worthwhile effort. I've actually been drawing horses since I was a little girl, but stopped for a while. Now I'm back to trying to draw animals again, and this was great practice for me!"

The legs and chest here are beautiful. Very nice shading. The only critisim I have to make is about the face. the eye needs to be lowered into about a little above the middle. And use those beautiful shading skills of yours to give the face some demension. But the proportioning and pose is captured brilliantly.

:-) Andrea T.A. Osakoda replies: "I'll keep that in mind! I'm still working on fine-tuning my art, but I really do appreciate the tips and constructive criticism. I know what to work on as a result. Thanks for the visit and the wonderful compliment, especially from someone who is a "unicorn obsessionist"."

beautifully done. The shading looks fantastic on the legs but what about the horse's face? The eye does need to be lowered a bit and you might want to give the chin more shape but other than that it's wonderful. Keep up the good work.

:-) Andrea T.A. Osakoda replies: "I'll definitely have to go back and work on my unicorns! Horses in general are difficult to draw, but they have such a fluidity to them, I sometimes find it hard to capture. Thank you for the comment and critique, I'll take your tips to heart. 2"

Quite beautiful!!! This picture caught my eye in your gallery! Your skilled use of shading portrays the etheral grace of the Unicorn very successfully. If you squint at it you can barely see it moving... I myself am no fan of Unicorns( I enjoy less etheral yet equally gracefull beings such as Dragons and Vampires- hence the alias) but a beautiful drawing nonetheless...

:-) Andrea T.A. Osakoda replies: "Wow! Thank you for the compliment! I am very particular when it comes to shading, especially with pencils. It's something of a drawing obsession of mine. I, too, love dragons and vampires, but haven't drawn many of them. I guess that will be the next step in my art. Glad you stopped in for a visit!"
