SciFi and Fantasy Art: Spike

It was nearly dark again, and Rovert was once more without a fire - having found no wood in all that desolate waste. As the sun vanished, however, any doubts that he might have had as to whether the flash of color he had seen out of the corners of his eyes all day had been merely the effect of the merciless sun. The woman, hovered still at a distance, seeming too timid to come near, but somehow unable to simple leave and let it be. He could see her eyes now, and the steady ache that seemed to radiate from her countenance as she drifted between the tortured spurs of rock that broke the even surface of the plain. She paused and looked at him, and her sorrow left her gaze as barren and empty as the plains that surrounded them.
