SciFi and Fantasy Art: Flower Gathering

A young unicorn curiously looks on as fairies come to gather flowers. This was a card that I gave to my roommate a couple of years ago for her birthday, since she's a big fairy fan. Thanks to her for scanning it in and giving me an electronic copy. It was made in the same year as the dinosaur card, now in the Sci-Fi gallery. Except for one other one, I haven't made any more cards since b/c I ran out of ideas. :p Rapidograph and colored pencil.

Oh wow, the forest is so pretty... I like the unicorn, too, of course. But I found the background fascinating. *grin*

Like the previous commenter I too find the background more fascinating than the foreground. 14
I really can't say why, but maybe it's because I get feeling that there's something there I wanna see, while I already can see everything in the foreground.
Anyway... I think the horn of the unicorn should be brighter; I didn't see it, until I read the previous, and read it was a unicorn. 14
The nose of the unicorn seems "strangled" as if someone but a belt around it, and pulled it too tight.
Also I think the unicorn looks a bit under-nourished. 14
Perhaps more flesh on its bones. 2
This, however, doesn't change the fact that I really like the picture. The unicorn, the fairies, the cluster of flowers and the forest... really well done! =)

:-) Alice Hsieh (Changewinds) replies: "Hehe, I did say it was an _old_ pic. Yeah, my unicorn's are a bit different these days. As for the nose, the inking there didn't turn out as I wanted. The horn's a lot to see w/ better resol'n. Hmm, undernurished, interesting interpretation . . . Thanks for the feedback."

Oh yeah, one more thing-very nice grass!

I think that the foreground is fine. And I think the unicorn looks great, not malnurished. (However, I do think that it's legs are a little thin) But nonetheless, this is a great piece. I like it very much!

Ohh! Beautiful! I love this one!

Such prettiness! It makes me think of the place where I spent three months camping in the wilderness. I'd rather live there in a tent than my home in suburbia any day. Especially if there were unicorns and fairies!
