| 25 Apr 2002 | Magius <kai@har...com> | the myth where the girl is being chased and turned into a laurel tree is "Daphne and Apolo" | |
| 5 Jul 2002 | Fire Sawin | Actually there are two myths of a girl being turned into a tree, on was a nymph being chased by Pan, the ugly nature god, and she came to her fathers river, and called out for help. Her father sprayed her with some of his water, and she began to sprout leaves where the water touched her skin, and she turned into a beech tree, I think. I'm not sure about that one. But the Apollo myth, that one was a laurel. Apollo was chasing a niad, (water nymph) and when she reached the shore of her stream, her feet began to take root and she became a Laurel tree. He was sad that she had done so, so he took a couple of her leafy branches, and wore them as a crown around his head.
Nice drawing. I like it. | |
| 5 Nov 2002 | Allison | it's Daphne. Her father, a river god, changed her into a tree to protect her from the affections of the god Apollo. | |

| 14 Jul 2004 | Laura Johnston | I happen to know a lot about this myth because that's where my name, laura, comes from. cupid struck apollo with an arrow of love near where he would come upon daphne (sometimes called laurel) who cupid struck with an arrow of disdain. when they set eyes on each other..you know the story..she ran, he followed, she called to her father (a river god) for help and he turned her into a laurel tree to protect her from the god. apollo still loved her, though, so the laurel tree became sacred to him and the laura (crown of laurel leaves) was given to champions at his olympic games. ta da. btw..i love the pic | |
