SciFi and Fantasy Art: StarlightWooo... more art noveau. This was done in black and white gelly roll pens, and took about a million years. I'm none to fond of her large nose, but I won't make a bit deal out of it, since obviously she seems content enough, large nose notwithstanding. November 2003 New Version, August, 2004 To quote my friend Cat, 'I like the roundy-top version better' So here it is. | |
 | | | | | Date | Name | Comment | | | 23 Dec 2003 | Navah Rosensweig | Oh, so pretty. I love your art noveau. I love the starkness of this. The stars, the ripples in the water, the sheer detail on those scales, and her hair - amazing. The full moon - the way her tail almost feels in motion - I liked your art before, but you really are just getting better and better and better, and it shows. This piece is just so good. Lisa Ann (Jae) Andresen replies: "Hm. I really do seem to be putting more motion, or potential motion, in my images lately, don't I? That's good. I strugled with that for a long while" | |
| 23 Dec 2003 | Ellen 'the Alaskan' Million | *drool* Oh, this is gorgeous!! I love the composition and all the lovely details, and I don't find her nose off-putting at all! Lisa Ann (Jae) Andresen replies: "::grumble:: I'm already tweaking with the composition in Photoshop. Why are atists never satisfied?" | |
| 23 Dec 2003 | Michelle Chelle Schad | OMY i love this picture!! What media did you use for this? just black ink? comp???? TELL ME PLEASE!!! You do such a great job with backgrounds! *FCD* Lisa Ann (Jae) Andresen replies: "I just used black and white gel pens, really. Most of the white lines you see are the paper showing through. The white was only used in places that I felt needed more definition. It took a long time, in little tiny strokes, and I wish now that I'd waited and used India ink instead, whould would have been nicer. Thanks for liking it, though." | |
| 24 Dec 2003 | Kassandra 'Lady Fireborn' Siegel | **Wibbles** 1: That background! That's an absolutely amazing and increadibly awesome star and moon background, and I bet doing all those stars by hand must have just about killed you, especially since you had to color in everything *else* to get it to look that way. 2: Those ears! I always love, love, love your mermaid ears, with that awesome webbing touch. They're one of those things about your mermaids that make them look like *mermaids* and not people in fish tails. 3: That pond! Those cattails and lillies and the ripples are all so increadibly amazingly done. 4: It's amazingly wonderful stylistic stuff, and all and all an astoundingly good image for something without any shading whatsoever. 5: Did I mention that background? I love it. It's so beautiful. | |
| 20 Jan 2004 | Anya ´broom rider´ Kholodova | Lovely! Great graphic artwork; bet it took a lot of patience to finish it with gel pens, but you can be really proud of the result. By the way, I think that there is nothing wrong with her nose; I think that her face is beautiful, shows some personality, too... And I love the way you draw her hair... ...Oh, I just noticed the fin!... Lovely, lovely! | |
| 26 Jul 2004 | Evelyn Mae Todd | I ....I can't breathe. I saw the new version in LJ, was going to comment there, but decided to comment here. I don't know what it is about them, but...I just feel very connected to this picture. Like it's me, or it's...I can't explain it. I am sorry to have not posted to Elfwood much lately, but..just..wow. You are so improving as an artist, not that I don't love your early pictures. :hugs: You are amazing. | |
| 17 Aug 2004 | Kassandra 'Kass Fireborn' Siegel | Dear Jae; If you do not submit this to Ellen, I am going to WHAP YOU WITH BAUGETTES. I mean it! Love, Kass | |
| 29 Apr 2006 | Anna 'Sparrow' Vikmanis | she's pretty ;D | |
| 5 Jan 2007 | Ashley Holloway | Another absolutely amaizng picture! I love how serene she looks, and I love, love, love the hair drifting in the water. Did you draw out the words or make them on the computer. If you drew them you are just compltetely amazing in every way, if not you still are! | |
