SciFi and Fantasy Art: Snake TattooFirst new piece in a long time... the scan's not the greatest, but it will do. This is just sort of a teaser; I'm working on tons of new stuff, but since this was only intended to be a simple, background-less piece, it was finished first. I've improved with my anatomy tons, but it's faily obvious I still have a ways to go. Criticism helpful, as long as you're not pointing out the obvious: I know she's naked.

The only thing I can see that maybe needs attention is that her legs are a little short...I think, or maybe it is something to do with her feet...I'm not sure as it is not glaringly obvious, just something not quite in proportion - not major enough to spoil the over all effect though! Lisa Ann (Jae) Andresen replies: "feet are hard, aren't they?"
| 1 Aug 2003 | Nicole A. Hite | She's so beautiful and curvy! Her horns remind me of candy. Hm... Maybe I'm just hungry... | |
| 18 Aug 2003 | rachel kate | Super cute, jae! I especially like the ram's horns, although it took me a while to decide that they were in fact horns instead of hair decorations, because they look pretty flat, so perhaps some shading there would add depth? She has a lot of character, which is the norm for your drawings. Anatomically speaking, i think that her right side is longer than her left, because her, ah, buttock seems to be significantly lower, even though perspective dictates that what is farther away should be smaller, so her entire right side must be a bit swollen. In fact, i think your anatomy's fine, but because she's standing in an unusual position what went slightly askew was the perspective (because her right leg also seems too long). Other than that...I feel like the tail begins slightly to the left of the small of her back, and that the cleft or whatever it's called of her back (the up and down shadow) is a bit overemphasized because it really looks like an actual line on her skin. Also, i'm not sure if i can't see something small and detailed just because i'm looking at the thumbnail right now, but where's her right arm? Hope i'm not too nitpicky, because i really like it! Lisa Ann (Jae) Andresen replies: "You're right, you know. The one leg is shorter than the other. Perspective and angles are really hard for me to get right-- I think because I still work mostly from pictures rather than life. It's great for getting the bult of one's knowledge, but i think the finer points can only be really understood after working with live models. : igh::" | |
| 19 Aug 2003 | Kassandra 'Lady Fireborn' Siegel | I think Rakie gave you enough critique so I'll dispense with that--I'm hella impressed rakie, and I agree in particular about the horns--but I've been really fond of this cutie since you slipped me a preview. She's got such style and spunk. At the time, all I knew about her was her file name--tattoo.jpg--and while I eventually I figured out it probably referred to the snake, it struck me that there's something very tattoo-ish, or perhaps tattoo-able, about the drawing itself. I'm telling you, there's a guy out there who's *looking* for this chick. He may not know it yet, but he is. Lisa Ann (Jae) Andresen replies: "You've hit the nail on the head there, Kass. I really wanted this to have a sort of "inked on the arm of a sailor from a wicked fantasy novel" feel to it. She's a tattooed tattoo." | |
| 17 Jan 2008 | Trish Ostering | Hi, I was just browsing some snake drawings and came across yours. I love it. I’m an aries and knew right away those were horns. Sooner or later I’m gonna get 2 tattoo pieces, one with a woman with red hair and horns, the other with snakes. I absolutely love this. | |
