SciFi and Fantasy Art: What Dreams May Come

Title comes from Hamlet, not the Robin Williams movie. I was depressed when I painted this, but after returning to an old theme (see Illian Sunset), I was elated to have finally completed this painting to my satisfaction. Notice the presence of the moon.

Also, Wyvern's Library writer Alex R. Kahler recently wrote this beautiful poem to accompany my painting. Everyone should check it out. Thanks, Alex!

On it's own, I'd say that this picture is GREAT. It's something that I would be soooo happy with if I could do myself. Very nice. Now, with that said, I *still* prefer Illian's. 2 Heh heh.

All of your artworks are great, I like all of them so much. Your Art Nouveau  pictures are beautiful, your fairy-tale illustration style is also great... but the "dragons upon a watercolor landscape" series of pictures is really very special. I like all of them, the ones which bring an unexpected element of fantasy in a very realistic landscape and the ones like this, where the dragons look "at home".
This picture is my favorite of the series at the moment. Tranquility... Serenity...

Apsalutly beautiful! The use of colour is amazing, the reds and pinks fading into the blue and navy. Its so mystical i love the way you've used siluettes. Well done!!!!!!

You've obviously seen the movie what dreams may come...however if I'm totally wrong and you haven't, then you should see it. The art in that movie is really incredible and this sort of resembles it. Nice Work!

:-) Lisa Ann (Jae) Andresen replies: "The title comes from Shakespeare's "Hamlet". I've since seen the movie "What Dreams May Come" (or parts of it), and I agree that it's visually stunning."

It is very nice, but you committed one of my pet peeves: One can never see a star through the dark part of the moon.

:-) Lisa Ann (Jae) Andresen replies: "Yet it's an old stylistic element prevelent in many highly-regarded fantasy pieces, and this image was never intended to be fully realistic."

Absolutely stunning!! I love the way each dragon seems to be surrounded by its own colour (purple, red, pink). Was that intentional, or just something that came together with the colouring?

P.S. Sunset is my favourite time of day, and I love fantasy books/artwork, so this sure hit the nail on the head for me!

Doesn’t depression do wonders for art? I have been pretty depressed lately and some of my best stuff has come out now. I loves it. Your painting is very serene and beautiful. I loves it.
