SciFi and Fantasy Art: Winged Feline

This is a red griffin-like cat-creature made completely with Adobe Photoshop... There's a lovely tool called Smudge in it. :) Obviously, it doesn't have a beak, so what is it? :) Any ideas? [This is the first picture I ever did for Elfwood... so it's years old]

I really like that you used such a vibant and bold color. As for what he is-does it really matter? He would make a rather interesting creature for Magic:the Gathering the card game. Sorry-I got carried away. Keep up the good work
