SciFi and Fantasy Art: Moon Maiden

....Now up in the pure cerulean rides sublime. The whole air whitens with boundless ride Of silver radiance, trembling round the world. Diana still hunts the New England sky. In Heaven queen she is among the spheres; She, mistress-like, makes all things to be pure; Eternity in her oft change she bears; She Beauty is; by her the fair endure.('Diana still Hunts', Henry David Thoreau)......That orb'ed maiden, with white fire laden. Whom mortals call the Moon. Glides glimmering o'er my fleece-like floor. By the midnight breezes strewn; And wherever the beat of her unseen feet. Which only the angels hear, May have broken the woof of my tent's thin roof, The stars peep behind her and peer....('The Cloud', Percy Biysshe Shelley)....Thou silvery deity of secret night, Direct my footsteps through the woodland shade; Thou conscious witness of unknown delight, The lover's guardian, and the Muses' aid! By the pale beams I solitary rove, To thee my tender grief confide; Serenely sweet you gild the silent grove....('A Hymn to the Moon',Lady Mary Wortley Montagu)//'03. She is the Moon Maiden, the moon being a universal and ancient symbol of femininity in many traditions, customs and beliefs.

Wow, no comments? This is pretty! Reminds me of 'Starry Night' and that scene from 'Anna and the King' where she starts to go swimming.

This is beautiful..what was the medium??? I love the texture you have on this and the glow!! great job Audrey!!

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "The medium is something I don't often use: Pastels--blame it on the old commercial art teacher and I agree with him. They are messy and I hate the way they feel! *like fingernails in the chalk board! Give me the shivers!* I've seen some gorgeous art using pastels, but I'ss stick with watercolor and colored pencils! Thanks!"

Audrey, I just love this piece. You really captured a mood here that intrigues me. Beautiful!

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "I love the way it feels to be standing in the water. That's the Pisces in me I guess *S*--I was experimenting with my pastels after I spent time in Rhode Island. I read the moon poetry then drew it but Elfwood wouldn't allow this in so I elaborated by added the poetry I read then resubmitted it again. Thanks for commenting!"
