SciFi and Fantasy Art: Mermaid-photo reference

I've seen so many nice pictures done using magazine models. I've done it on occasion but not lately. I liked this one since she wasn't looking directly at the camera. Just add fins and she's Elfwood material. I have a feeling this will be up here only temporarily. 11-03

This is a really, really good pic, absolutely stunning, really. And no, i'm not going to do a first comment dance 2

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "*No Dances required*~ But I thank you, Little Duck for being the first to comment. This wasn't so hard but what bothers me is that the elements don't really flow well together. I am thinking that I might color it in. Just a thought--Or pull it down."

*looks around, starts screaming for more people* Where are you people! Why isn't anyone commenting on this absolutley great piece of art?

You really shoulkd color this! This looks so great!

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "You know--You are so right. I notice when I color the images they earn more comments. Also I haven't had much time to comment in other galleries (fishing for comments--I admit that sometimes if you want more comments you have to either get moderator's choice or visit other galleries and let people know you are there!)----Thanks--and I will visit your gallery soon!"

See what i mean? Once again it's a good thing i check back once in a while,or i would've missed your new stuff.I said it once,i'll say it again.Although you have many different styles, some colored, some not, each one of them is unique and seems to take the viewer to a different place.(a good peaceful place)This one makes me want to reach out and touch one of those fins while she's not looking. Is it slimy or scaly?,Just a little farther...oops,sorry,she looked and caught me, busted!!It's like i'm right there, and one other thing, you do water quite well, very impressive!Kudos to you.(why do you think this one won't be up here very long?

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "*L*--I really do appreciate your comments--I'll have to put some more guitar pics up here! Maybe an elf that plays a flying "V" or something!---I don't particularly think it is all that good, personally. There is no challenge in photoreference (looking at a magazine model). The water and fins I added don't quite meld with the model. I started adding color to it. That's sort of a challenge. Maybe I'm just bored!--I like my cyclops picture far better-- (that's one for the guys who are more into big bottoms than boobs!)"

I've been browsing through your work, and I'm in love with your style. Coloring things seems to attract more attention and in a way finalize something, but I believe this piece would be fine without it. But, it would still be awesome with it! I'm just kind of starting out drawing, and usually draw animals- mostly dogs and wolves. I've been working on some of my RP characters, but I can't get the faces right, mostly the lips. I love you're faces, model or not, they're very well done. Great drawing and keep up the good work!

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "You are starting out? What's good is you are telling me what you like in certain styles of art. Sometimes people tend to overwork areas that don't need so much attention (like the lips and fingers--simply because they are so intent on making them look right). Another way I have learned to approach tough areas---use a light pencil like a 4H to start. Avoid using erasers. Work with mistakes. Best wishes to you!"

FABULOUS!!!! Beautiful pencil-work, excellent proportions...lovely sensuous feel. I bet most men won't care that she's only got fins below! *wink*

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "*LOL*---That's MEN for you!"

Oh my gosh you are so amazingly talented. She is stunning! One of my favorite things to do is take magezine models and turn them into fantasy creatures... but yours turned out 10 times better than all of mine put together! Well done! Please keep it up here, and I also think this looks great the color that it is!

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "Thanks. A little knowledge about drawing pencils is pretty beneficial, I think---and always keep those suckers sharpened!"

HOW on earth were you able to do the face like that! excellent work!

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "It's a photo reference. I was looking off a magazine model. I'm not to excited with this type of drawing because I feel there is little challenge to it. It might look real, but to me it is very flat and has little personality to it. Thank you for commenting!"

Ya know wot? I don't think this should be colored. I think that this picture is stunning and you shouldn't change it at all. There's something about the style you used for it that makes it look like something a sailor would have sketched from a longboat because he couldn't believe his eyes. I think if you colored it, it would take away that character.. Probably be quite beautiful too but still.. hehe and Hey you've got TONS of comments on it!
