SciFi and Fantasy Art: Snail Pace

'....Take the feather of the young molting griffon to the Mystical Elm Witch who resides in the lush green forest beyond the meadow, and she will see that with with this feather she may cast her spell upon the Toadstool Prince that he reigns the land with power and might as did his fathers before him. Fly swiftly young Gerdie Idlewings!' And without a care, Gerdie takes her flight to help usher in the new Toadstool King leaving the wise old Forest Dweller, Mauga with little confidence, '-that Gerdie Idlewings is so slow that you think she rides a snail to deliver anything!' the Forest Dweller mutters under her breath. Excellent concept. And awesome execution.

1 Audrey S. Totire replies: "I'm glad you like it. I wanted to do this cutesy faerie design with mushrooms but there are millions of faeries perched on mushrooms so I decided on perching her ontop of a snail instead. This picture I had been working on -on and off for about a year trying to make it look right. Thanks 2"

I recognised this in the thumbnails from your forum avatar. She has a cute expression, and I like the background with the mushrooms and snail.

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "Yea! You got first comment and I didn't even know the picture was published *L*--I was happy to have finally finished this, so everytime I look at my avatar I know it actually "goes" with something--Thanks for making a snappy first comment 1"

Love the toes, its lovely to see the whole picture.

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "*L*--I kind of needed something to go with that avatar I had been using! I suppose she could write with her toes if she really wanted to 10Thanks for stopping by!"

Lovely concept and design. I love his sweet innocent expression, and the exaggerated style. The colors are soft but rich, and the details are great! Keep it up!

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "Sometimes I think I make the same expression (It's as if to say I will be lost in my own happy thoughts 10 )---I hope to do other similar pictures, but it's all in making the time. This one I've had going for about a year working on and off---Thanks for your comment!"

This is a really cute picture, I've been wondering where you got your avatar. My only critique is that the fairy really pops out of the picture because of the high contract between the skin and outline-y shadows. This is fine, but the snail, that is supposed to exist in the same space as the fairy should have similar outline. As it is, he fades into the background a little too much. That might be something that you can easily fix, if not, this is still darling.

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "Thanks--You know I feel like I have looked at it so long (if you read any of my complaints about the monitor being bright) I feel like I have cooked my eyeballs looking at it. anyway, thanks for pointing that out. I suppose I could go back and fix it. I guess what is jumping out at me is that her right butt cheek isn't aligned correctly with the snail shell. I'm going to study what you are saying because I really want for this to look right."

And the avatar finally has its big debut! It came out great- very impish

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "Thanks! I guess imps can have a kind of blank gaze about them too 2"

Hey! I know her!

I love her daydream-y expression and quirky smile, aaaaaand she has such cute toes! You have managed to put a ton of personality into a tiny faerie package.

Her snail friend seems determined to get her to their destination. What a very unique way for her to travel on her quest. Her gas bill must be a dream!

:-) Audrey S. Totire replies: "At the rate our gas prices are now I think we'd all be riding snails (or bicycles if we don't mind a little extra work 10) Thanks!"

I so associate her face with you that it seems strange to learn her name is "Gerdie Idlewings" and not "Audrey Totire"! ^_^

Very cute picture, from her little smile to her round little toes ^_^. The dragonfly (which I didn't see at first) is a nice touch, too.

She's so cute! I love how very at home the fairy looks as she rides along.
