SciFi and Fantasy Art: Dawn then and Now

This is two pictures of Dawn, my main character, who is also my doppelganger. She is part Mer and can control the weather at will, unless she hasn't eaten in a few hours… Anyway, the one on our left was drawn in early 2002, the one on the right on January 3rd, 2006. The thing is, I was looking through my art book and was annoyed by the old version, especially by how bad my technical skills were, so I decided to try drawing a new version of the exact same pose, using my new technical, shading, and anatomical skills. This is the result. I am sooooooo happy that her legs turned out un-stubby this time. Please don't tell me about the obvious problems with the old one, because I already know. If you can please offer some help with the new one that would be wonderful, accept that I ALREADY KNOW that a sixteen year old girl can't be cut like that, but I don't care at the moment.
