SciFi and Fantasy Art: Battle Dragon

This is my take on the battle dragons from Christopher Rowley's excellent Bazil Broketail series. These wingless dragons are enlisted in the Imperial Legions as front-line troops to be used in combat against the trolls and ogres of an evil empire's armies. Done with nib pen and ink and markers on cardstock.

is that supposed to be a specific wyvern dragon? (bazil?) Maybe you should draw the Purple-Green throwing a troll over a wall. i bet you could do that pretty good.

I like this drawing, on it's own merits it is a great drawing .. but.. erm.. ok, I have a few problems with it as being a portrait of a battledragon... 1) the tail mace; they hold them, they arent' stuck on o.O *wonders how you could stick a mace or sword onto a dragon's tail without it coming off the first time they broke into a run* 2) the armor: they wear a leather joboquin and generally not a whole lot else except the helmet.. certainly not full, covering plate armor like that... Oh well, I still like the picture. 1

True, they did hold the mace, or sword with the tail, but I thought the effect was kind of cool. The mace is actually attached to the tail armor though. As for the armor itself, the leather joboquin was there to allow the dragonboys to attach plates to a system of toggles and hooks, encasing the dragon in at least partial plate. Glad to see you're a fan of the series though. Thanks for the comments!

I love the Bazil Broketail series! Battledragons have a leather jacket called a Joboquin, (I think that's how it's spelled). Could you draw Alsebra, Purple Green, or Bazil's mate High Wings and thier children Grener and Braner? Purple Green with Vlok or Gryf arguing will be really funny as a picture. Sigh, there is so much to draw from this book series.

Loved the drawing. While you are doing all those other drawings and all that other stuff, could you send me the powerball winning numbers. 1

Ok, great dragon. I'm sending it to my wife she is a Bazil fan too.

Me, I like my dragons with more meat in the hips, but what do I know?
