SciFi and Fantasy Art: Black Dragon

This is very simply a black dragon drawn in ballpoint pen. I think I lost some of the detail and fine anatomy when I filled his color in with scribbly lines (which I should have taken more time on). Constructive critisizm (sp?) is welcome, especially concerning dragon anatomy.

Hola fellow Ohioan! This is an awesome dragon! I love to draw draggies myself, but most of them are cartoony rather than realistic!! ne way, my suggestion on this draggie is to work on the wings. They need more detail. If you like bat-like wings, get a book on bats and check out what they look like. Or come up with your own style of wing. Wings, I think, are one of the hardest parts on dragons. Keep up the great work!

Awsome dragon. The wings definatly need more detail. I like the feet a lot thought, they just generally suit it well ::grins::.

Ur dragon is wonderful! Just a little critisism(spl), i don't think the neck is suppossed to be that long, but it's ur dragon, do whatever you want with it 2 You're doing great!

This dragon is totally amazing, dude! Just two things and the other guys were right, the arms are way too muscular and the wings need detail! The legs and feet are great! The neck is totally cool. Great job and keep it up! I want you to email me with other dragons and the revisions to your pieces. Thanks again dude!

I think it's great. Hrmph, wish *I* could do that with a ballpoint pen..

It's an excellent drawing, especially considering you did it with a ballpoint pen. The only thing I would suggest doing is adding to the wings a bit. They look very flat against the dragon. Add some veins to them or something to make it look more three-dimensional. Otherwise you did a great job. Consider submitting this to your Cooper Union portfolio =).

great dragon...very real, some pictures ive seen in pen have mistakes, but yours is kewl!...i have never been able to form their belly well, it always looks like a gut, but your a real pro, and if your only 15/16! thats great, your talent can only get better10

Really excellent pic, just need to add a few veins in the wings to bring out some definition, or whatever. Main thing is artistic license!! Woo I LOVE artistic license, I can get away with so much really bad anatomy/ pics in general. Especially if its mythical like dragons cause the anatomy is whatever you want and it doesn't matter it it's physically able to fly cause it's MAGIC so it flies no matter what!! That was my point in the whole babbling thing. I'm gonna leave now...yeeeaaaaah...bye

In Anatomy, I think it's pretty good but try to add some distance between the arms and the wings.

I must agree with the other commenters, the arms are a bit too muscled and the wings look flat. My suggestion, fix the arms so they don't look like the dragon is on steroids, and add details to the wings. Maybe lightly shade them in, or add a "finger" or so to speak. I love the head angle though, very creative! The inking here is amazing. The legs are really awesome too! Keep up the good work here.
