SciFi and Fantasy Art: Melt

Krystal is an ice elemental, but a heart of ice can break as easily as one of the flesh. Lovelorn Krys has just been abandoned by her true love. He has chosen a darker path, seduced by power and blinded by ambition. In the rush of pain, Krys finds the true meaning of being overcome by one’s emotions and feeling the burn of betrayal. Don’t give in Krys. Don’t give up...

*I tried to put as much emotion into this as possible, yet also using as few lines as possible. Felttip ink pen over pencil sketch.

Tell me she's not too far gone to pull herself out of the depression! The lines are so harsh and blunt, which gives the impression of broken glass, or scars that will never leave, provided she can pull herself out of this. It's so hard to fight the pain of betrayel, especially of someone you still love so desperately, but who will not, can not love you in return. Ha ha; listen to me -- 17 and talking like I really know what it's like...

Beautiful emotion. Melting Point and Freezing point are at the same temperature, just going the opposite direction -- her position seems to suggest one or the other, either she is melting, or she could be pushing herself back up again. C'mon, girl, you can do it!

Each person seems to relate their own strong emotion to the suffering of Krys. I think we all can sympathize, afterall the heart is ageless (no one is too young to understand heartbreak)it's the mind that builds the walls to protect the heart.

I also love that her pose can be interpreted as both falling or rising. Again, the viewer is free to decide.

Thank you for expounding on the emotional side of this pic. I really did want this pic to be about feeling."

Wow O_O
There is tremendous emotion in this picture... her entire body seems to weep tears. A great combination between expressing emotion in a human way (body positioning) and in an elemental way (the melting). Beautiful picture ^_^

I love the way you put that! It very much fits my intent for this pic in that I wanted to express as much emotion as possible without going into detail overload which is what I usually end up doing. *sigh* This was challenging for me but I am very happy with how it turned out.

Thank you ever so much for you wonderful comment!"

This is a very simple iconic image, and incredibly effective both in depicting emotion and in the elegant line work.

:-) Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Thank you, Val! I enjoy the challenge of using line work to convey feelings and such. It’s not easy by far, but I get lucky sometimes. 12
