SciFi and Fantasy Art: Pincher

Just a common household pest, at least in those houses that are magically inclined. Ever feel one of those sharp itches that come out of nowhere and drive you nuts until you scratch it? Here’s what’s responsible. Don’t try and squash them though. It’s bad luck and a pinch from one of these critters is a sign that your magic level is high since this is what attracts a Pincher.*Pencil. Ink. Photoshop... and a pinch of newt’s eye.

Ha ha ha ha! It's awesome! -- makes me think of Shel Silverstein. I'll think of this next time I've got one of those itches on that unscratchable place on my back, and I'll feel better knowing that yes, I itch, but at least I have a high magic level. 2

36 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "I just checked out Shel Silverstein's site. He is amazing! Thank you so much for leading me to this new artist. I was giggling the whole time I was browsing his site. The flying hippo on his homepage is just too cute!

I wish I would have kept more of my silly little doodles like this one. They were so fun to do and everyone who passed my desk at work would always chuckle at whatever crazy beastie was currently occupying my scratch pad. Perhaps this is a habit I should start up again at my current job. Especially when I am dealing with a particularly challenging customer! *mischievous giggle*

Here's wishing you many more pinches. Remember to keep that magic level high!"

I just slap itches automatically... no wonder My jeans keep seeming to shrink (or I get taller. Hope it's the latter) But, I really like this. It's funny, and it has a very unique feel to it. Although, I must admit, I first saw the tumbnail, and thought it was a fly in a meat-grinder *shic\vers* that would be REALLY odd...

18 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Ewww! Fly in a meat grinder? You're off the charts on the Gross-O-Meter! *lol*

I miss the days when me and my friends would sit around and make up critters like this little dude. Believe me, he's one of the tamer beasties I've come up with. You should have seen the Belly Button Lint Mite or the Crested Toe Jam Muncher. *gag* "

So why does it look so bored? Are people becoming more magically dead, these days? O_O?

8 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "*sigh* You guessed it. The poor guy has had to resort to pinching people with high levels of caffeine instead. To me it amounts to the same thing but..."

Oh he's so Cuuuuuuttteee!!!!!!!! (and I feel I must quote Terry Pratchet in response to what I just wrote: "5 exclamation marks. A sure sign of an insane mind" So what does 7 mean?) I love it, I really do. My favorite part are his toes. They look like they'd be sticky, for better gripping on vertical surfaces. I also like his knobby skinny knees.

*Offers pixie dust* Make more!

22 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Seven! Seven!! That's a sure sign of complete and utter anti-insanity!!! It's that place insane people reach when they've passed thru to the other side of Crazy!!!! It's like finding yourself seated between two sumo wrestlers on the subway on a 95-degree day!!!!! Oh the humanity!!!!!! Ack!!!!!!! Does anyone have a cracker?

Anyhoo...I love the reaction this little guy is getting. His feet were inspired by gecko feet and I would imagine that he could cling to any surface, including a sweating sumo wrestler. His legs are like the gangly limbs on a juvenile giraffe and just as apt to get impossibly tangled. My favorite part is the expression on his odd little face. I can't decide if he's scoping out his next victim or if he's just bored with the whole pinching thing. Perhaps I shall draw him a lady friend to impress...

Thank you for letting me know what you think of my little dude."
