SciFi and Fantasy Art: Resting Draken

This Draken is a slightly different species (I like variety) than the one in my other Draken pic. He’s not finished but I love the look on his face so much that I just had to share him with you now! This fellow looks very pleased with himself, as he should be since he just won the Snake Valley Race. This win will bring much prestige to his owner and substantially raise his “stud fee”.

* I really dig these guys. Next I will try drawing one with an actual rider. Maybe the Draken will be going full speed. VROOOOOOM! WHEEEE! Watch out for that rock!!!!

WHEEE! He's so cute! I absolutely adore his expression!! He's so saucy! I love it I love it I love it! Can I have one!? I'd take really good care of him^_~ Yay!

18 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Oh my goodness! I would love to have a whole stable of these guys! I used to have so much fun creating my little racing 'dragons'. The only problem is that each one ends up slightly different because I'm always thinking of new embellishments; ears, horns, spikes, etc. I wish I had kept more of the sketches. I got a hundred things going at once but I really want to start drawing these critters again. If I do they'll immediately be put up here. Hmmm…some flashy colored racing stripes, jingle-janglies on the bridles, terrified riders holding on for dear life...Wheeeee!"

I ma greatly enjoying your Draken species
they are very interesting and also unique from draken to draken... Great imagination... would you perhaps mind if i colored this little gem? I'm just itching to give him some lovely hues... and any restrictions you pace would be very much followed.

3 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Oh my gosh! I'm sorry it took me so long to respond. I would be very pleased if you would give this poor guy some much needed attention. I am very excited and can't wait to see what you come up with! You have my permission to post the finished pic on your site, just let me know when it's up so I can have a peek! Of course to keep with Elfwood rules just mention my name somewhere in the description. I will put something in my description when it’s done so folks that see this one can go see yours too. Deal?

I'm tickled that you like my little Drakens. I hope to get inspired and get to draw'n more of 'em soon! Thank you so much! You've flattered me beyond compare by being the very first person to offer to color one of my pics! Have fun with it!"

Hmmm. so smug about something... I wonder what.

18 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Oh, he's just showing off for the ladies. *giggle*"

Got done looking through all your new pics. When are you going to post the pic of a Draken running that you mentioned in the description that you might draw? I want to see it! Also read something about cute baby Drakens?

8 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "I know. I know. *sigh* I am sooooo fired!

I do have several rough sketches but have ruthlessly neglected them while I've piddled about with other pics. I was never very good at sticking with one thing and it has gotten worse with time. I will honestly try to kick my pathetic self in the butt and see what I can do with those sketches. A baby Draken would be cute, eh? I haven't done cute in a while and that would be fun. Fun is good. I could do with some fun. Yeeeees. Fun...

Hey. Thanks for looking at my new stuff. I sure appreciate it!"

Hi, that's very good man! How do you do that?
I'm jalous... Hihi, now greets from a dragonfreak!

12 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "He he he. The secret is that I model my beasties after animals with lots 'o personality. My cat makes an excellent subject and he's full to burst'n with attitude. Lucky me!

Thanks for the enthusiastic comment. They always brighten my day!"

*Squints at the Draken, a la Clint Eastwood* You feeling lucky, punk? *Jumps on Wyrven* Hut Hut! *Wyrven kicks up and shakes Pete off* ...*Shakes head at Wyrven* I'm going to sell you, you undertsand? No more free meals, you're gettign sold. That's the last time you'll buck ME off...

Ok, back to the picture. Like you said, his expression's pretty awesome, a kind of, "I did it and you didn't HA!" sort of thing going on. If I could have a pet, I'd totally get one of those. Or a Pug. I'm still deciding, especially if all Pugs are like Miles, my buddy's dog. He ate half a pizza once. THAT's a fun dog.

What keeps drawing me to this guy is his proportions. You just don't see lizards like that anymore, and he's just plain interesting. That, and his head-fin/extra skin/whatever-it-is is VERY unique. Nicely done, friend! *Leads Wyrven along by the reins* I told you you're getting sold! Let someone else try to tame you, ya little ass!

11 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "I love this guy's smug expression, but I also love the fact that he is just squatting there like a lazy bones. I guess he has earned a good rest so I shouldn't pick on him too much. He would make a good pet but the Draken are notorious for being a bit gassy. Whew!

Pugs are very cute, but you should know that they can snore very loud and that you have to have air conditioning or they overheat very easily in the summer. Afterall, they are in the pampered pooch variety so they need extra special care. Fotunately, they are full of personality too and I would love to have one, or two, if I had the time. *cry*

*offers 300 gold pieces for the Wyvern* I may not be able to ride him, but he'll sure look pretty at my skyfarm. "
14 Oct 2007:-) Wendy Bittnerová
He really does look satisfied... like the cat that just ate the canary. Wonder what he just got away with? Smiles - Wendy

2 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "I do enjoy drawing my Drakens with that little secret smile, but this one is definitely more comical than the other one. I'd say he's looking forward to the benefits of being the winner of the race.

Or, it could just be a touch of indigestion! *urp*"
