SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Torch

This here's a little sketch that has seen some serious miles! It started out as a doodle in history class which a friend admired because it reminded him of his favorite character (I ain't tell'n! You figure it out;). He mentioned that his friend was looking for a tattoo design and asked if I would show it to him. I met his friend who liked it a lot and offered me some cash for it. I thought I had seen the last of that drawing but a week later my friend's friend met up with me to return the sketch saying his uncle had gotten it applied that weekend and he didn't want to copy him. I offered to make him a new design and it all worked out. *deep breath* However, a few weeks after that another friend approached me about this design saying his dad wanted a tough character for their baseball team t shirts at work and offered to buy it. I told him about the tattoo fiasco but he didn't seem to care. Needless to say, some other folks liked the design but I decided to retire the original. I just recently saw it and decided to bring it out of retirement, including a Photoshop face lift. Now he's the Torch, because he's been carried and passed around by many hands. And hey, the name's so corny, its cool! Tee hee!

Wow, well that WOULD make one great tattoo. I love how smooth the lines are.

1 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Thanks! This guy's had yet another offer. The minute I pulled him out of retirement and put him up here a friend said, "Hey! Can I use him for a tattoo?" So, The Torch has thus been passed again. Poor guy."

Damn... That "little sketch" of yours has quite a story.

1 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "It sure does! It's gotta be the brush on his helmet. That seems to get the most attention. Good thing he grooms it regularly. *snort*"

I love the guy's tattoo also. The whole thing is artistic and yet tough...

Wow that red is really nice, it's very simple but...very detailed at the same time, me likes, I think this is my favourite.

18 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Coolness! This guy still amazes me by how popular he is, even after all these years. It must be his cologne. Tee hee.

Thanks for letting me know ya like him!"

Has he ever gotten those horns stuck in anything? I'm only curious.

1 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Nope...but his brush has caught on fire six times and he got a peach jammed in his face plate once. They fight dirty in his world. 1"

This is a really interesting character design and I like the soft background images. I can see why so many people like this. Nice work Barb!
