SciFi and Fantasy Art: Fairy in the Rain

This picture took me forever to do, mainly because the file size is so large and ended up with so many different layers my computer was choking on the sheer mass of it. (The original is almost 4,000 pixels wide.) But that paid off, because I took a disk to Kinko's and got some beautiful prints done. It's a fairy in the rain! I love the transparent umbrella. =D

Oh, how I wish I could do artwork again! I love it!.... ::mopes sadly:: but I don't have the money to buy supplies and media.... ::Cheers up a tad bit:: But my friends bought me supplies on my birthday because they know how much I like to draw... :16addens again:: But I've already used this year's supply, and it'll be untill May '04 untill my next birthday. I hate my job. And I always feel like a moocher when people give me stuff.... They always tell me to hush, that they like my work, and they want me to do more... ::Cheers up:: So I LOVE it now! Whoops, didn't mean to mope so badly on your comment line. I apologize.

I love the posture, the expression on her face, the angle she holds the umbrella, it all screams faerie to me! O.O Bee-Yu-Tee-Full! The color choice is nice, not too colorful, not too bland, and the color fading is very nicely done as well. I'm at a loss for constructive criticism for you, Rebecca, I'm sorry. If I REALLY strecthed for something to improve on, it would be her own left foot. (the one on the right of the page) The toes seem to be splayed too wide, but again, that's only if you really stretched to see it. A very wonderfully executed picture.

Josh.

Oh, and by the way, Angelina's comment about transparency is one I agree on. Could you perhaps create a tutorial for your fellow artisans on FARP? We would really love to be able to do shading such as yours. Please?

Actually, the transparencies aren't as complicated as they look. Everything in this picture, excluding the background, is on a separate layer in the original file. The fairy's skin is by itself. Her hair. Her eyes. Her outfit. I think even her tattoos are on a separate layer from the skin. The wings and umbrella, therefore, are by themselves, and I simply lowered the opacity of the layers so that what was underneath showed, but they're a light blue color to start with.

I love this! She looks a little miffed! The wings are amazing and the rain running down everything is awesome! I run into file size problems too. If I make it big enough to get everything in, it turns into a behemoth! Well worth the effort in this case it seems!
